Mg Windsor Ev Vs Tata Nexon Ev Which Electric Car Takes The Crown

MG Windsor EV vs Tata Nexon EV: Which Electric Car Takes the Crown?

The world of electric cars in India is heating with the launch of The MG Windsor EV in our market, with prices starting at Rs 9.99 lakh. Given its electric specifications, similar prices, and features, it goes up against the popular Tata Nexon EV. If you are confused to which one should you buy, Let's break down the specifications, features, and pricing of these two vehicles to see which one might be the better pick for you

Price Comparison

The MG Windsor EV enters the market with an attractive starting price of ₹9.99 lakh (ex-showroom, pan-India). On the other hand, the Tata Nexon EV, a more established model, comes with a price tag ranging from ₹12.49 lakh to ₹16.49 lakh. At first glance, it seems that MG has a clear edge in affordability. However, there’s more to consider beyond the sticker price.

One key detail is that MG offers the Windsor EV’s battery pack on a subscription basis, charging ₹3.5 per kilometer with a mandatory payment for at least 1,500 kilometers per month. So, while the initial price is lower, you may end up paying more in the long run depending on your driving habits. Tata, on the other hand, includes the battery in the cost, with no extra subscription fees.

Size Matters

In terms of dimensions, the MG Windsor EV is notably larger. It’s 4,295 mm in length, compared to the Tata Nexon EV’s 3,994 mm, making the Windsor a significantly longer car. This added size translates to a more spacious interior, offering a wheelbase that’s 202 mm longer and a much larger boot capacity—up to 604 liters compared to the Nexon’s 350 liters. For families or those who prioritize storage, this difference could be a dealbreaker.

The Windsor’s larger size may appeal to those looking for more interior room and a commanding presence on the road. But if you prefer a more compact car for city driving, the Nexon’s smaller frame could be a better fit.

Power and Range Showdown

When it comes to power, both cars pack a punch, but there are some differences. The MG Windsor EV is equipped with a 38 kWh battery that powers a 136 PS motor, while the Tata Nexon EV offers two options: a 30 kWh battery with a 129 PS motor, or a long-range 40.5 kWh version with a 145 PS motor. On paper, the long-range Nexon EV seems to have the upper hand, with a more powerful motor and a longer claimed range of 390 kilometers, compared to the Windsor’s 331 kilometers.

However, if you don't need that extra range and are looking to save a bit on cost, the MG Windsor EV might still be a solid choice, especially if you're primarily using it for city commuting.

Feature Showdown: Inside and Out

Both vehicles come packed with features, but there are differences worth noting. The MG Windsor EV shines with its massive 15.6-inch touchscreen, a panoramic glass roof, and sleek 18-inch dual-tone alloy wheels. The Tata Nexon EV counters with a slightly smaller 12.3-inch touchscreen but offers a well-rounded suite of premium features like vehicle-to-vehicle charging and a vehicle-to-load feature, which allows the car to function as a power bank for other devices.

Inside, the Windsor EV features black leatherette seats with gold and bronze highlights, along with 256-color ambient lighting and 135-degree reclining rear seats. Tata Nexon EV’s interior is equally plush, with leatherette upholstery and a leather-wrapped two-spoke steering wheel. However, the Windsor EV’s attention to luxury and comfort, especially with its reclining seats and ambient lighting, might just sway buyers looking for a more opulent experience.

Safety Features

Both cars are equipped with a host of safety features, including 6 airbags, electronic stability control, and a 360-degree camera. The MG Windsor EV edges ahead slightly with larger all-wheel disc brakes, while the Tata Nexon EV includes blind-view monitoring, which helps while changing lanes. In terms of safety, either option will keep you well protected on the road.

Which EV is the Best Choice?

So, which one should you choose? It ultimately depends on what you're looking for in an electric vehicle.

The MG Windsor EV makes a compelling case with its lower starting price, spacious interior, and a luxury-oriented feature set. If you're someone who values size, a lavish cabin, and doesn't mind the battery subscription model, then the Windsor EV could be your best bet. It also offers the added bonus of an unlimited kilometer warranty on the battery, although this applies only to the first owner.

On the other hand, the Tata Nexon EV is hard to ignore, especially with its choice of battery packs and long-range capability. It's a well-rounded car that offers excellent features for the price, along with the convenience of owning the battery outright. If you're after a proven performer with a solid reputation in the market and value features like compact size and premium touches, the Nexon EV might just edge ahead.

In the end, both the MG Windsor EV and the Tata Nexon EV bring something unique to the table. The Windsor EV offers a spacious, luxurious experience at a lower upfront cost but adds a battery subscription fee. The Nexon EV, meanwhile, provides long-range options and is a more compact, versatile choice with no additional battery costs. Your decision will ultimately come down to what matters most to you—whether it's affordability, luxury, size, or range.

No matter which car you choose, both are excellent electric vehicles that signal the future of driving in India. It’s clear that electric cars are here to stay, and these two models are leading the charge.
