2024 Hyundai Alcazar Petrol Dct The Feature Packed Comfortable Family Suv You Need To Consider

2024 Hyundai Alcazar Petrol DCT: The Feature-Packed, Comfortable Family SUV You Need to Consider

The six/seven-seater SUV segment is more vibrant than ever, with models like the Tata Safari, Mahindra XUV700, MG Hector, and Hyundai Alcazar leading the charge. While the Hyundai Alcazar might have stayed out of the limelight in the past, it has always been a solid contender. For 2024, Hyundai has updated the Alcazar, giving it a fresh appeal that could make it a top choice for families seeking a feature-packed, versatile SUV. In this first drive review, we take a closer look at the top-spec turbo-petrol DCT variant, which could be the sweet spot in the lineup.

Stylish and Distinctive Design

The 2024 Alcazar shares its lineage with the popular Hyundai Creta, but Hyundai has made sure to give the Alcazar a distinctive identity. The updated front end features a bold new bumper, an intricate grille, and H-pattern LED daytime running lights (DRLs) reminiscent of the global Santa Fe model. The 18-inch alloy wheels sport a new blade-like design that adds to the car's dynamic stance, while the rear end gets a modern makeover with connected taillights and a sharper bumper.

This refined exterior makes the Alcazar stand out, especially in a segment crowded with strong competitors. It combines a balance of sharp lines and understated elegance, making it a head-turner without being overly aggressive.

Premium Cabin with New Features

One of the strongest aspects of the Alcazar has always been its interior, and the 2024 update only elevates its appeal. The top-spec Signature variant feels luxurious, with soft-touch materials, premium silver trim accents, and a dual-tone dashboard. Hyundai has introduced a dark blue theme, replacing the conventional black with a shade that complements the brown tones used across the dash and upholstery.

Notably, Hyundai hasn’t changed the overall cabin layout, which mirrors that of the Creta, but that’s not a drawback. The well-designed dashboard, intuitive controls, and high-quality materials create an upscale environment that offers excellent value for money.

Among the new features in the Alcazar’s cabin are ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems) and ventilated rear seats. The second-row passengers are in for a treat, with comfortable captain seats, ample legroom, tray tables, window blinds, and the addition of a cooling function. Hyundai has also made the seat squab adjustable for better under-thigh support, ensuring maximum comfort during long journeys.

However, while the second row remains a highlight, the third row is a bit more of a squeeze. With a typical 5+2 seating arrangement, it’s best suited for short trips or kids. Fortunately, the backrest recline feature adds some flexibility for third-row passengers.

Performance and Driving Dynamics

Under the hood of this Alcazar is a 1.5-litre, four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine, producing 160bhp and 250Nm of torque. While these figures may not seem mind-blowing for an SUV of this size, the Alcazar feels sprightly on the road. The engine offers decent refinement, though it doesn’t quite match the silky-smooth 2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine from the previous version.

The Alcazar feels responsive at lower revs, with a noticeable boost in power post 2,500rpm, making highway driving effortless. The 7-speed DCT automatic transmission is quick to shift, offering smooth gear changes even in stop-and-go traffic.

That said, the Alcazar’s steering lacks feedback, and there is noticeable body roll when cornering at higher speeds. However, it excels in ride comfort, especially on rough roads. The suspension is well-tuned to absorb bumps, and road noise is minimal, ensuring a pleasant drive on less-than-ideal surfaces. While the ride is slightly firm at lower speeds, it remains comfortable for daily use.

Should You Buy the 2024 Hyundai Alcazar?

The 2024 Hyundai Alcazar checks all the right boxes for a family SUV. With its premium interior, updated features, and reliable performance, it stands out as a strong contender in the segment. The Alcazar excels in delivering comfort, particularly in the second row, which now includes ventilated seats and adjustable under-thigh support.

However, if you’re looking for a true seven-seater with ample third-row space, models like the Tata Safari or Mahindra XUV700 might be worth considering. For everything else, including a balanced combination of comfort, features, and price, the Alcazar is an excellent choice. It’s more affordable than before, and with added features like ADAS, a panoramic sunroof, and improved cabin materials, it offers a compelling package in the crowded SUV market.

Ultimately, if you’re in the market for a versatile, well-equipped, and refined family SUV, the 2024 Hyundai Alcazar deserves serious consideration.
