MG Motor India is gearing up for an exciting year with the introduction of two new vehicles: the MG Gloster facelift and the Cloud EV. After a hiatus since the launch of the Comet in April 2023, MG is set to refresh its lineup with these new models, bolstered by a recent investment from JSW. The brand aims to introduce at least one new vehicle every three to six months, starting with these two offerings in the second half of 2024. Here’s what to expect from these upcoming launches.
MG Gloster Facelift
The MG Gloster, a full-size SUV that has been on the market since 2020, is due for a mid-lifecycle update. This facelifted version will bring significant changes to its design while retaining its mechanical components.
Exterior Updates:
The facelifted Gloster will feature a bold new front fascia with an enormous hexagonal grille accented with red highlights. A new split headlamp setup, pronounced wheel arches, and rugged cladding will enhance its robust look. At the rear, expect new LED tail lights connected by a light band and a redesigned bumper. The SUV will also sport new designs for the 18-inch alloy wheels, with possible additional chrome elements for the India-spec model.
Interior Updates:
Inside, the Gloster facelift will have a revamped dashboard featuring a larger touchscreen. Redesigned AC vents and a new center console with revised switchgear will update the cabin’s aesthetics.
Mechanicals:
The SUV is expected to continue with the existing 2.0-litre diesel engine, available in both 4x2 and 4x4 drive configurations.
MG Cloud EV
The Cloud EV, which is marketed as the Wuling in Indonesia and the Baojun Yunduo in China, will be introduced in India under the MG brand, similar to how the Comet is a rebranded Wuling Air. This EV blends the characteristics of a large hatchback and an MPV, offering a unique proposition in the market.
Design and Dimensions:
The Cloud EV measures approximately 4.3 meters in length with a 2,700mm wheelbase. Although it has the stance and shape of an MPV, it is a five-seater with two rows of seating, providing ample interior space.
Interior Features:
The interior follows a minimalist design with a large floating touchscreen. The front seat backrest can recline fully into "sofa mode" with a 135-degree recline, enhancing passenger comfort.
Powertrain and Range:
Internationally, the Cloud EV is available with two battery options: a 37.9kWh pack offering 360km range and a 50.6kWh pack providing 460km range. It is powered by a front-axle mounted, permanent magnet synchronous motor producing 134hp. The specific version to be launched in India is yet to be confirmed.
Launch Timeline and Expected Pricing
MG Motor India's product rollout will commence in the second half of 2024.
The Gloster facelift is expected around the festive season, followed by the Cloud EV by the end of the year.
Pricing:
The Gloster facelift might see a price increase, with current prices ranging between Rs 38.80 lakh and Rs 43.87 lakh (ex-showroom).
The Cloud EV is expected to be priced under Rs 20 lakh in India, benefiting from high levels of localization to keep costs competitive.
With these new launches, MG Motor India is set to strengthen its presence in the Indian market, offering updated and new models to meet evolving customer demands.
