Mercedes-Benz has launched the sixth-generation E-Class (V214) in India, introducing the luxurious long-wheelbase (LWB) version at an introductory price of Rs 78.5 lakh for the base E 200 petrol variant. The range expands with the diesel-powered E 220d priced at Rs 81.5 lakh and the high-performance E 450 4Matic topping the lineup at Rs 92.5 lakh. The new E-Class LWB is set to continue its strong legacy in India, being the second generation of this stretched sedan sold exclusively in right-hand-drive markets.
Pricing and Rivals
With its launch, the new E-Class sees a starting price hike of Rs 2.5 lakh compared to its predecessor. This positions the E-Class slightly above its closest rival, the BMW 5 Series LWB, which is priced at Rs 72.9 lakh. The E-Class and the 5 Series remain the only two long-wheelbase luxury sedans in the segment, catering to those who seek extra cabin space without compromising on luxury or performance.
Engine Options and Performance
The big highlight of the new E-Class LWB is its powerful engine options. The top-of-the-line E 450 4Matic comes with a robust 3.0-litre six-cylinder turbo-petrol engine, generating an impressive 381hp and 500Nm of torque. This allows the car to sprint from 0 to 100kph in just 4.5 seconds, delivering sports car-like performance in a luxury sedan. The other two variants, the E 200 petrol and E 220d diesel, are powered by 2.0-litre four-cylinder engines, offering 204hp and 197hp respectively. All engines come equipped with a 48V mild-hybrid system, providing an extra 23hp and 205Nm of torque when needed, and are paired with a smooth 9-speed automatic gearbox. The E 450 also benefits from Mercedes' 4Matic all-wheel-drive system.

Exterior and Interior Features
The new E-Class brings a refreshed design with notable changes. The front end is inspired by Mercedes’ electric EQ range, featuring a large chrome grille, an oversized 3D logo, and a gloss black panel. The sedan rides on stylish 18-inch wheels and incorporates flush door handles similar to those on the S-Class. At the rear, the updated LED tail lamps feature a distinct tri-arrow pattern.
Inside, the E-Class LWB impresses with its rear-seat luxury. Passengers in the rear can enjoy seats that recline up to 36 degrees, extendable thigh support, and comfort neck pillows. The car also features Mercedes’ Superscreen layout, combining a 14.4-inch central screen, a 12.3-inch passenger display, and a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster. A 17-speaker Burmester 4D surround sound system adds to the in-car experience, and buyers can opt for the Chauffeur package for added rear-seat luxury.
Safety and India-Specific Features
Safety is a priority in the new E-Class LWB, which is equipped with 8 airbags, including a first-in-India front center airbag. Level 2 ADAS is standard, along with Active Brake Assist. Mercedes has also tuned the suspension specifically for Indian driving conditions, ensuring comfort for rear-seat passengers. The car has been tested in markets like Spain and Germany for emissions and crash safety, making it one of the safest and most advanced sedans in its class.
With its luxurious features, powerful engine options, and India-specific tweaks, the new Mercedes E-Class LWB is set to be a strong contender in the premium sedan segment.
