This is the first official appearance of an all-electric GLC SUV made by Mercedes-Benz as the next significant rollout of electrification in the brand's life.
As the immediate successor of the EQC, the new GLC would be based on a built-to-purpose MB.EA platform, with the chief differences being an overall shift in the architecture, is designed to accommodate electric performance and efficiency.
Powertrain and Range
Two variants will be offered at launch:
GLC 300+ RWD with 369bhp and 504Nm
GLC 400 4MATIC AWD with 483bhp and 808Nm
In each of the two configurations, a 94kWh battery pack is combined with an 800-volt system, which can charge faster to 10 to 80 per cent in as little as 24 minutes.
With a full charge, the GLC has an impressive range of 713km WLTP, and this becomes a new frontier among long-range electric SUVs in the vehicle category.
Sensible Exterior and Lightened Grille
It has a futuristic design that makes it difficult to miss its Mercedes status. The light-up front grille, which illuminates the front, is the most interesting as it consists of 942 light-up pixels able to do animated welcome and departures.
The SUV is also 5 inches in length as compared to the ICE-powered GLC, which implies a commanding drive without loss of aerodynamic functions.
However, one can also order a large hybrid-powered cabin bunker equipped with hyperscreen and more image-guided template controls that help the drivers in severe weather conditions.
The electric GLC is available with the optional 39.1-inch MBUX Hyperscreen as an interior feature that spans the dashboard. This large screen is an eventual incorporation of the instrument cluster of the driver, the infotainment centre, the climate controls, and even a passenger interface on one large digital screen. High-quality details, cabin light, and attention to detail used by Mercedes make sure that the cabin is relaxing and futuristic.
What does it mean for the EV Strategy of Mercedes?
The fully-electric GLC reinforces the notion of a fully electric future by the German car manufacturer Mercedes-Benz. Long distance, ultra-advanced technology and unparalleled presence on the road will make the GLC compete with the BMW iX and, but will also attract the current owners of GLC who are willing to go electric.
