Mercedes-Benz GLB EV Confirmed For India Launch

Mercedes-Benz India has confirmed that the new-generation GLB EV will arrive on Indian shores, with the compact luxury SUV already sold globally in five and seven-seat layouts, offering up to 631km of range and rapid 800V charging, though local variant and pricing details remain under wraps for now.

  • Indian variant details remain unconfirmed though a CBU import is expected

Mercedes-Benz India has confirmed that the new-generation GLB EV will be heading to the country. Santosh Iyer, Managing Director and CEO of Mercedes-Benz India, made the announcement during the company's half-yearly sales call.

The compact luxury SUV rides on the brand's Mercedes-Benz Modular Architecture (MMA) platform and was unveiled globally back in December 2025. It borrows heavily from the design and feature set of its combustion-engined sibling and is already available in markets such as the United Kingdom.

Powertrain And Range Options

Two Global Variants Offer Up To 631km On A Single Charge

Internationally, the GLB EV comes in two flavours, the GLB 250+ and the GLB 350 4MATIC. The former uses a single motor good for 272hp and 335Nm, while the latter gets dual motors producing a combined 353hp and 515Nm. Both variants share an identical 85kWh lithium-ion battery pack, though only the single-motor version carries the headline WLTP-claimed range figure of 631km.

Underpinning both is an 800V electrical architecture, which allows for DC fast-charging speeds of up to 320kW. Mercedes-Benz claims this setup can add roughly 260km of range in just ten minutes, a handy number for anyone planning longer drives.

Buyers abroad can also specify adaptive dampers as an option. Iyer stopped short of revealing any technical specifications for the India-bound version, so it is entirely possible that the brand brings more than a single variant to local showrooms.

Design And Cabin Features

Styling Stays Close To The Combustion-Engined GLB

Visually, the GLB EV does not stray far from its petrol and diesel counterpart. The upright nose and tail, connected LED light bars and squared-off wheel arches all carry over, though the electric version swaps in a sealed grille finished with illuminated stars.

Other shared cues include the large three-pointed star up front, flush door handles and short overhangs. Depending on market and configuration, buyers abroad can choose between five and seven seats.

Inside, the SUV can be had with Mercedes' MBUX Superscreen setup, which pairs a 10.25-inch driver's display with a 14-inch touchscreen and a dedicated display for the front passenger. This runs on the brand's own MB.OS software, with AI integrations reportedly including support from familiar names in the tech world.

Additional kit includes over-the-air update capability, built-in map navigation, a panoramic glass roof with adjustable opacity, customisable ambient lighting, a premium sound system with immersive audio, and a full suite of driver assistance features. Which of these features make it to the Indian model is not yet known.

Expected Pricing In India

Mercedes-Benz India has not disclosed pricing for the GLB EV as yet. For reference, the SUV is priced between roughly GBP 46,100 and GBP 56,800 in the UK. Given that it is likely to arrive here as a completely built-up (CBU) import, industry expectations peg the India price at somewhere around Rs 80 lakh, ex-showroom.
