Maruti Suzuki’s First Fully Electric SUV: The eVitara
The eVitara is Maruti Suzuki’s first electric offering after it entered the electric vehicle market. It is expected that the eVitara will be introduced in several global locations such as Europe, Japan, and India, as Toyota’s companion vehicle to the Urban Cruiser EV.
Introducing Maruti Suzuki’s electric SUV with dual motor 4WD, the car maker has plans to leverage the Indian market for appealing yet sustainable cars.
Assembly of the eVitara will happen at the company’s Gujarat manufacturing facility – a META product. Despite being up for release in early 2025, much has been made of the eVitara, especially about its recent TV advert of snow testing in the prefecture of Hokkaido in Japan.
eVitara’s Snow Testing: Showcasing SUV Credentials
On Christmas Day, Suzuki aired a dramatic TVC showing the eVitara navigating snow tracks in a proving ground and from Hokkaido, Japan. The advert made use of the SUV showing how well it performs on the rough terrain and using its advanced suspension that is well developed for these harsh terrains.
The test drive was made to show the twin motor setup in the higher trims where one motor drove the front wheels while the other drove the rear axle to allow for the shutoff 4WD feature. To satisfy the safety and performance of the eVitara, Suzuki exposed the model to low temperatures and other tough terrains to confirm durability for consumers in various parts of the world.
Powertrain Options: Catering to Different Needs
The eVitara offers two battery configurations, tailored to suit varying preferences:
49kWh Battery: Available exclusively with a 2WD layout, this version delivers 142bhp and 189Nm of torque.
61kWh Battery: Offered in both 2WD and 4WD options, the 2WD version produces 172bhp and 189Nm, while the 4WD variant adds a 64bhp rear motor, generating a combined torque of 300Nm.
This versatile approach caters to urban drivers seeking efficiency and adventure enthusiasts requiring off-road capabilities.
