Maruti Suzuki is all set to shake the midsize SUV space in India with an all-new model going live on September 3, 2025. The Maruti SUV is likely to be christened as the Maruti Escudo, and this SUV will be offered by the Maruti Arena dealership network and will most probably hit the rivals with the likes of Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos.
Dubbed internally as Y17, it will lie under the Grand Vitara and above the Brezza, forming a strategic mid-sized SUV in the Maruti line-up. This product is projected to become the flagship product of Arena dealerships to address the years of loopholes in the provision of a high-end SUV product in the Arena products segment.
Value-Packed and Feature Rich
Like any other Maruti Arena vehicle, chances are high that the Escudo will be a value-for-money package, and it will match its competitors in terms of features, being available at a lower price.
Although they have not been confirmed in detail, a package of creature comforts and safety items should be expected to satisfy the requirements of the current buyer of an SUV.
Powertrain Options and Expected Specs
In the engine front, the Escudo is likely to take some of the existing Maruti Powertrains, which include:
The engine is a 1.5L NA petrol with 103hp.
CNG option of 88hp
The petrol-hybrid combination of 116hp
They are expected to have both manual and automatic transmissions just like the Grand Vitara. The hybrid model may be the best fuel mover in its category.
Global Plans and Toyota Derivative
Maruti will also export the Escudo to foreign markets apart from the domestic sales. Another SUV which is in the pipeline is a Toyota-badged variant that will be positioned above the Toyota Taisor and will further the Toyota SUV portfolio in India.
A Recognized Brand that has International Origins
Although the name Escudo might be new among Indian customers, it is an existing name that Suzuki has been using in Japan in the Vitara. Maruti registered the Escudo name in India a year ago and this is now likely to feature in their new SUV launch campaign along with the imminent e-Vitara EV.
The Escudo forms one of the major initiatives towards the Maruti aim of leading all the price segments of the SUV model- with the attributes of affordability and economic efficiency along with good brand-strength.
