The electric SUV road has had another delay in the case of Maruti Suzuki entering the space. The company has already started producing its upcoming e-Vitara, but it has not confirmed that the car will enter the Indian markets as soon as it was expected. The carmaker has made the decision to serve global demand first before it turns its attention to the domestic demand.
Cause Of Delay
The launch of the e-Vitara has also been delayed since the company is battling to fulfil the export orders. One of such obstacles has been the provision of rare earth magnets, which are included in EV motors. These shortages in the supply chain have bogged down production, thus compelling Maruti to modify its schedule.
India Launch Timeline
The e Vitara has not yet been given a fixed launch date, but the company has promised that at some point before the end of the current financial year, the e Vitara will be available in India. This also makes the SUV one of the most significant EV launches to appear in 2025-26.
Tactical and Haptics
There will be two choices of battery pack available on the e-Vitara. Delta will be available in an entry-level pack of 48.8kWh battery with higher spec models having larger packs capable of increased range.
Though 4WD will be available in international markets, the Indian model will be available in only 2WD to keep the cost of the model low.
The Competition in the Segment
When introduced, the Maruti e-Vitara will go into a very competitive segment. The competitors it will face are the Hyundai Creta Electric, Tata Curvv EV, Mahindra BE 6 and the MG ZS EV.
Since competitive pricing is anticipated, this is what gives Maruti an opportunity to make use of the expansive dealer network that they have and the brand loyalty that they enjoy to gain a firm presence in the developing EV industry in India.
Part of Maruti’s Larger EV Strategy
The e-Vitara is simply to begin with the e-journey of Maruti Suzuki. The company has given plans to launch four EVs by 2030 in India, indicating some serious thrust on electrification in its product range.
