Mahindra Thar 2026 Facelift Spied: 5 Key Updates

Mahindra Thar’s 2026 facelift prototype has been spotted with fresh exterior elements like a new grille, headlamps, bumpers, wheels, and taillights, alongside cabin upgrades such as a larger touchscreen, digital cluster, and advanced safety features, while engines remain unchanged.

Mahindra’s popular off-road SUV Thar is gearing up for a substantial update in 2026, as prototypes in signature red with partial camouflage have been seen testing on public roads.

Spied Prototype and Exterior Highlights

The test mule shows a front fascia redesigned to echo the Thar Roxx edition, featuring a new grille with double-stacked slats that give a bolder face. Updated headlamp clusters accompany the grille, offering a modernized appearance up front.

The bumper has been tweaked slightly for a sharper stance without altering the overall rugged look. From the side, the silhouette remains familiar, but new alloy wheel designs add a subtle refresh to the profile.

At the rear, a revamped bumper and reshaped taillights provide a cleaner, updated look to the back end. Mahindra may also introduce new paint options to distinguish this facelift from the current model.

Key Exterior Changes

  • New grille design: Double-stacked slats for a bolder front face.

  • Revised headlamps: Updated clusters for a modern look.

  • Tweaked bumpers: Slight alterations up front and at the rear for sharper styling.

  • New alloy wheels: Fresh rim patterns that update the side profile.

  • Redesigned taillights: Refreshed layout for a contemporary rear appearance.

Interior and Technology Upgrades

Inside, the facelifted Thar is expected to borrow elements from the Thar Roxx version, starting with a redesigned dashboard that houses a larger touchscreen infotainment system running updated UI software.

The instrument panel may shift to a digital cluster for clearer visuals and modern appeal. Hydraulic steering could be replaced by an electric power steering unit, improving steering feel and efficiency.

Premium additions likely include a 360-degree camera for easier maneuvering, wireless phone charging for convenience, ambient lighting for a refined cabin atmosphere, and ventilated front seats for comfort.

Safety is set to improve with six airbags as standard, rear disc brakes, and Level 2 ADAS features for added driver assistance.

Powertrain and Mechanical Details

Mechanically, the Thar facelift retains the existing engine lineup without changes. This includes the 2.0L turbo petrol producing 152 bhp, the 1.5L turbo diesel with 119 bhp, and the 2.2L turbo diesel in current output levels.

Transmission options remain a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque-converter automatic, ensuring familiar driving dynamics.

What to Expect and Outlook

When officially unveiled, the 2026 Thar facelift will likely stand out through its updated front and rear styling, refreshed wheel designs, and possible new color choices. Inside, buyers should welcome the larger display, digital instrumentation, and added creature comforts without sacrificing the Thar’s ruggedness.

By keeping the proven engines and transmissions unchanged, Mahindra balances reliability and performance with modern updates in design and technology.

Overall, the upcoming Mahindra Thar 2026 facelift focuses on subtle yet meaningful exterior tweaks—new grille, headlamps, bumpers, wheels, and taillights—paired with enhanced cabin tech like a larger touchscreen, digital cluster, electric steering, and advanced safety features, all while retaining the current engine and gearbox options. These updates should keep Thar competitive and appealing to both adventure enthusiasts and everyday users seeking modern conveniences without compromising its off-road prowess.
