Mahindra Scorpio N 4WD Faces Longest Wait Yet: Over 3.5 Months

The Mahindra Scorpio N and Scorpio Classic continue to be top-selling SUVs, but the demand is so great that delivery times have lengthened considerably, especially for the Scorpio N 4WD variants, which now take over three and a half months in many locations to deliver.

[Mahindra’s Scorpio N](Mahindra Scorpio N 4WD Faces Longest Wait Yet: Over 3.5 Months) continues to lead India’s SUV segment with its rugged looks and impressive value for money, but demand has been so strong that buyers are left with extended wait times, especially for the 4WD trims, which are seeing delays of up to 3.5 months.

Dealerships are reporting that there are also waiting periods of just under 1.5 months for other well selling trims of the Scorpio N, like the Z2, Z4 and Z6, while more high-end trims like the Z8, Z8 Select and Z8L take customers about two months to get into.

Interestingly, the Carbon Editions that are based off the Z8 trims are much easier to come by, as they only have a wait time of about a month.

Scorpio N Variant-Wise Waiting Period Overview

  • Z2, Z4, Z6 (Petrol MT & Diesel MT): Up to 1.5 months

  • Z8 Select, Z8, Z8L (All fuel and transmission types): Up to 2 months

  • Carbon Editions (Z8/Z8L): Up to 1 month

  • All 4WD (Z4, Z8, Z8L Diesel): Up to 3.5 months

Customers, specifically looking for the 4WD configurations (mainly diesel manual and diesel automatic), will have the longest wait of all variants offered in the lineup. The Scorpio Classic is still popular but with a much-shorter wait time.

The Scorpio Classic (S and S11 trims) has seen steady bookings as well. The waiting period here is significantly shorter - up to 1.5 months for both variants. The S has a starting price of Rs 13.76 lakh for the 7-seater model and Rs 14 lakh for the 9-seater. The S11 has a price of Rs 17.72 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) and is offered only as a 7-seater model.

Engine and Transmission Options

Both Scorpio models use a 2.2L turbo-diesel engine, albeit in a different tune. The Scorpio Classic produces 130 hp and 300 Nm of torque with a 6-speed manual transmission.

The Scorpio N does, however, produce up to 175 hp and 400 Nm of torque and was also offered with a 2.0L turbo-petrol engine producing 203hp and 370Nm. Buyers will have the option of a manual and torque converter automatics and 4WD is optional on diesel trim.

As demand continues to exceed supply, Mahindra's production capacity will be tested and most importantly the Scorpio N 4WD continues to rise in popularity among the four-wheel drive adventurers.
