Mahindra NU_IQ Platform unveiled for Future SUVs

Mahindra has announced its brand-new NU_IQ structure, a modular platform that the company will be using to support four upcoming SUVs at its Freedom_Nu event. The NU_IQ will be supporting both ICE and EV powertrains with FWD and AWD configurations and purportedly even greater safety grades, best-in-class space, and remarkable ground clearance, establishing Mahindra in a robust position in the compact and sub-compact SUV segment.

The NU_IQ platform is developed as a unitised structure, which can be used with both internal combustion engines (ICE) and electric vehicles (EVs). Such versatility will guarantee that Mahindra generates SUVs to support different customer demands and governing rules. It will accommodate both all-wheel drive (AWD) and front-wheel drive (FWD) designs, which will enable future vehicles to satisfy efficiency-conscious buyers in addition to those interested in carving up the off-road environment.

Best in Class Cabin Space

Vehicles on the NU_IQ platform will be between 3.9 metres and 4.3 metres to span compacts and sub-compact SUVs. Their main distinction is the identical wheelbase of 2.65 metres in all models.

This, according to Mahindra, means that the cabin room is the biggest in the category, allowing occupants enhanced comfort and flexibility, be it on the ICE or EV model.

Level Floor, Greater Security and AWD Plus

Mahindra has stated that ICE and EV models running on this platform will be of a flat floor type. Not only will this make passengers more comfortable, but it also signals the possibility of an AWD configuration in EVs, which will probably be made possible by an electric motor at the rear.

Along with its monocoque construction, the vehicles are assumed to come with a higher crash-test safety rating, which is another field that Mahindra has improved over the past years.

Ground Clearance and Segment Benchmarking

The other impending feature of the NU_IQ platform is the 227mm of ground clearance, which is ranked among the highest ground clearances in its category as a compact SUV. This will guarantee that future SUVs of Mahindra are as comfortable on rugged terrain as they are in the city, and therefore useful jack-of-all-trades.

Four new SUVs will be built based on NU_IQ

  • Next-gen Scorpio-badged SUV is named Vision S.

  • Vision X - foundation to new-gen XUV3XO and XUV500.

  • The new version of Thar and Thar Roxx will be called Vision T and Vision SXT

The future Thar Roxx is Vision SXT

The NU_IQ platform marks a major bold move ahead as it offers a blend of versatility, safety, and performance to redefine the compact and sub-compact SUV landscape.
