Lotus Emira Debuts in India at Rs 3.22 Crore

Lotus has launched the Emira sports car in India, marking its entry with a starting price of Rs 3.22 crore (ex-showroom). This mid-engine, lightweight vehicle is the brand's sole internal combustion engine (ICE) offering in the country.

Lotus unveiled the Emira sports car in India on January 16, 2025, and launched the base Turbo variant at Rs 3.22 crore (ex-showroom).

This launch coincided with the inauguration of the flagship Lotus Centre at the World Trade Centre in New Delhi, established in partnership with Exclusive Motors, the official distributor of Lotus Cars in India.

The Emira joins Lotus's Indian lineup alongside the electric SUV and the newly introduced Emeya electric hyper-GT.

Engine Options and Performance Specifications

The Emira is available with two engine choices:

  • 2.0-Litre Four-Cylinder Turbocharged Engine: Sourced from AMG, this engine is offered in two configurations:

  • Turbo Variant: Produces 365hp and 430Nm of torque.

  • Turbo SE Variant: Delivers 406hp and 480Nm of torque.

  • 3.5-Litre Supercharged V6 Engine: Sourced from Toyota, this engine generates 406hp and 420Nm of torque.

Both engines are mounted transversely and drive the rear wheels. The four-cylinder engine is paired exclusively with an 8-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT), while the V6 offers a 6-speed manual and an automatic gearbox. The Emira's lightest configuration weighs 1,405kg.

The Turbo SE variant accelerates from 0 to 100kph in 4 seconds and achieves a top speed of 290kph. Additionally, the Turbo SE features a launch control system.

Design and Aesthetic Features

The Emira's design draws significant inspiration from the Lotus Evija hypercar, particularly evident in the headlamp structure and bonnet scoops.

Key design elements include prominent side intakes, short overhangs, and pronounced rear haunches. The rear showcases flat C-shaped LED taillights connected by an LED brake light, positioned above rear vents and dual exhaust outlets.

Customization options are available for wheel finishes and exterior branding. The Emira Turbo and V6 variants come standard in Vivid Red, while the Turbo SE is offered in Zinc Grey. Notably, the Turbo SE features exclusive 20-inch Satin Grey wheels.

Interior Features and Technology

Inside, the Emira has a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system supporting Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. A 12.3-inch digital driver display provides essential driving information.

Additional features include a multifunction steering wheel, a 10-channel premium KEF sound system, optional 12-way adjustable sports seats, cruise control, and advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS).

The interior materials and build quality reflect a significant improvement, offering a driver-centric environment with physical controls for climate and drive modes.

Storage solutions comprise cupholders, door pockets, a center console storage box, and space behind the front seats for soft bags. Customers can also personalize interior colors and branding.

Market Position and Competitors

With a starting price of Rs 3.22 crore (ex-showroom), the Lotus Emira positions itself as a premium entry-level sports car in the Indian market.

Currently, it faces no direct competition, as the Porsche 718 Cayman is no longer available in India. This unique positioning allows the Emira to cater to enthusiasts seeking a distinctive and performance-oriented vehicle.

In conclusion, The launch of the Lotus Emira in India signifies the brand's commitment to delivering high-performance sports cars tailored for driving enthusiasts. With its blend of powerful engine options, evocative design, and modern technological features, the Emira is poised to make a significant impact in the Indian automotive landscape.
