Kia Sorento Hybrid to Be Completely Manufactured in India: Local Manufacturing, High-End Features, and Launch Schedule

Instead of using foreign kit assembly, Kia India plans to produce the next Sorento Hybrid SUV solely at its Anantapur facility. The goal of this strategic localization is to provide premium features, competitive pricing, and a significant market share in the three-row hybrid SUV market. The Sorento Hybrid will appeal to Indian families looking for comfort, efficiency, and style thanks to its enhanced production facilities, anticipated self-charging hybrid technology, and roomy interiors. It is expected to launch later in 2026.

  • Details regarding Kia India's significant decision to produce the Sorento Hybrid entirely domestically

  • Information on the debut schedule, anticipated features, positioning, and manufacturing plans

According to reports, Kia India intends to produce the new Sorento Hybrid locally at its Anantapur facility in Andhra Pradesh. This is a major departure from the company's practice of assembling cars using completely knocked down (CKD) kits.

Unlike the current strategy for the Kia Carnival, sources suggest that the SUV will launch from the main manufacturing line instead of a separate CKD configuration. This implies that the Sorento will be constructed entirely in India rather than simply assembled here.

Improved Facility and Local Emphasis

Kia reportedly improved the Anantapur facility with modifications to welding spots, body dimensions, stamping procedures, and paint lines in order to get ready for Sorento production. This ensures that the plant can handle the larger SUV alongside high-volume models like the Seltos, Sonet, and Carens.

The goal of the emphasis on complete localization is to cut expenses and lower the Sorento's price when compared to imported substitutes. The action shows that Kia is confident in its ability to price the SUV competitively for the domestic market and may even look at exporting it in the future.

High-end SUV Positioning

When the Sorento is released, it will rank higher than models like the Seltos in Kia's internal combustion engine (ICE) SUV lineup in India.

With dimensions of about 4.8 m in length and 1.9 m in width, the Sorento is firmly positioned in the premium three-row SUV market globally. Kia is apparently aiming for 50,000 units annually, demonstrating its aspirations in the market.

Improved Facilities and Local Emphasis

Kia reportedly improved the Anantapur facility with modifications to welding points, body dimensions, stamping procedures, and paint lines in order to get ready for Sorento production. This ensures that the plant can handle the larger SUV in addition to high-volume models like the Seltos, Sonet, and Carens.

The focus on complete localization is intended to lower expenses and make the Sorento more reasonably priced when compared to foreign substitutes.

Positioning of Premium SUVs

India-specific Sorento is anticipated to maintain its worldwide aesthetic, fusing audacious style with practicality that appeals to families.

For larger families, it should have flexible boot room and three rows of seats. This SUV will probably have an all-wheel-drive (AWD) option and a self-charging hybrid drivetrain, possibly based on the 1.5-liter gasoline engine of Hyundai-Kia. At launch, a plug-in hybrid variant is considered doubtful.

Expected Competitors and Costs

Once on the market, the Sorento Hybrid is anticipated to face competition from other well-liked three-row hybrid SUVs that prioritize comfort, internal space, and fuel efficiency. The vehicle is expected to be priced between ₹30 and 40 lakh, primarily due to local production.
