EVs Take Off in India, Scorpio Leads Mid-Size SUV Sales December 2025

Despite a noticeable month-over-month downturn following the holiday season, India's mid-size SUV market ended December 2025 on a steady note, recording a modest year-over-year increase. Mahindra's strong market appeal was further reinforced by the Scorpio range's sustained dominance of the charts. While electric SUVs, particularly Mahindra's new XEV models, demonstrated growing acceptance, Tata's Harrier and Safari reported robust annual growth. All things considered, the data show consistent demand and a slow transition to electrification.

  • The segment is dominated by the Mahindra Scorpio/N, which continues to be popular with consumers and has excellent year-over-year growth.

  • While some conventional models experience monthly drops, electric SUVs, especially Mahindra's XEV vehicles, gain ground.

With 25,745 units sold overall in December 2025, the mid-size SUV market in India saw a little 1.59% year-over-year gain over December 2024. Nonetheless, overall volume decreased by almost 15% when compared to November 2025 estimates, suggesting a typical post-festive slump.

Sales numbers are indicative of a larger market pattern in which demand is steady every year but varies from month to month, particularly following robust purchases over the holiday season. The segment's shares of premium and niche models remained lower.

December 2025 Top Performers

Mahindra Leads the Way

With 15,885 units sold, the Mahindra Scorpio/N topped the charts with a robust 30% annual growth and comparatively constant monthly numbers. Its consistent appeal in the mid-size SUV market is shown by its strong performance.

Mahindra's electric vehicle also had a significant influence. When compared to November 2025, the XEV 9e electrified SUV recorded 2,154 units, while the XEV 9S added 491 units. Both vehicles demonstrated significant momentum.

Other Models in the Race

Tata's Robust Annual Profits

Despite a notable monthly decline from November, the Tata Harrier, including its electric variant, recorded 2,378 units, expanding dramatically by 82% year over year. With 1,446 units, the Tata Safari similarly showed a month-over-month decline but a modest year-over-year increase.

Others' Diverse Fortunes

The demand for a number of other SUVs varied. Sales of the Mahindra XUV7XO fell precipitously from the prior year, probably as a result of manufacturing adjustments, while the MG Hector/Plus and Hyundai Alcazar had mixed success.

Due to its discontinuation, the Hyundai Tucson reported zero sales, while high-end models such as the Jeep Compass and Volkswagen Tiguan registered low numbers.

Mid-size SUV sales data from December 2025 shows consistent yearly demand in this well-liked market, driven by well-known and affordable models like the Scorpio and N.

Although buyers are starting to show interest in electric SUVs, conventional models still account for the majority of total sales. More changes are anticipated in early 2026, and monthly swings indicate that buyer mood is impacted by seasonal variables and the introduction of new models.
