FASTag Recharge: Tips You Should Follow To Avoid FASTag Recharge Scam

Challenges in Implementing FASTag

Your FASTag balance is crucial for smooth toll payments, allowing you to drive through toll plazas without stopping. For customers whose KYC documents are received, the FASTag account recharge limit is Rs 1,00,000, while for non-KYC customers, it is Rs 10,000. Recently, incidents of FASTag scams have been reported, emphasizing the need for secure recharge practices.

Understanding FASTag

FASTag is an electronic toll collection system in India that uses Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology to make toll payments directly from a linked prepaid account. The tag is affixed on your vehicle's windscreen, enabling seamless toll payments without cash transactions. However, you must regularly recharge your FASTag to maintain a sufficient balance.

Recent Scam Incident

A 47-year-old man from Nallasopara (Mumbai) lost Rs 2.4 lakh to cybercriminals while attempting to recharge his FASTag. He fell victim to a scam when searching for 'FASTag Customer Care' online, highlighting the importance of being cautious.

Tips to Safely Recharge Your FASTag

  • Use a Trusted UPI App: Select a secure UPI app from a bank's official app or a trusted third-party app for recharges.

  • Ensure Accurate FASTag Details: Double-check your FASTag account details, such as your vehicle number and FASTag ID, to avoid errors.

  • Select the Correct FASTag Recharge Option: Navigate to the FASTag recharge option within the chosen UPI app and select the appropriate category.

  • Enter the Correct Amount: Carefully enter the recharge amount to avoid overcharges or insufficient charges.

  • Maintain a Stable Internet Connection: Ensure you have a good internet connection to avoid interruptions during the recharge process.

  • Secure UPI PIN Entry: Enter your UPI PIN discreetly, keep it safe, and do not share it with others.

  • Save Transaction Reference: After a successful recharge, save the transaction reference or take a screenshot for future reference to avoid discrepancies.

Important Update: KYC Requirement

If the KYC for FASTags on your car's windscreen is incomplete, the FASTag will be deactivated or blacklisted after January 31, 2024. Ensure your KYC is updated to align with RBI guidelines and avoid deactivation, regardless of your balance.

Conclusion

By following these tips and keeping your KYC updated, you can safely recharge your FASTag and prevent scams. Stay vigilant and ensure your FASTag account remains secure for hassle-free toll payments.
