4 Upcoming New EVs In India

India’s EV scene is heating up with four new Tata Nexon EV rivals on the horizon. MG, Hyundai, Kia, and Maruti Suzuki are all preparing compact electric models promising impressive range, modern tech, and competitive pricing. With launches expected between 2025 and 2027, these EVs aim to reshape urban electric mobility and offer buyers exciting new alternatives.

With electrification happening at an unprecedented pace, car manufacturers in India are tirelessly working towards the launch of new EVs. A slew of new entrants is bound to pepper the mass market electric vehicle segment from MG, Hyundai, Kia, and Maruti Suzuki.

Here, we shall take a peek at the upcoming new EVs in the Indian market meant to rival the Tata Nexon EV.

1. MG Windsor EV Long Range

The MG Windsor EV stepped into the Indian market in September 2024, and, by grabbing headlines, it overtook the Tata Nexon EV. Presently, the Windsor EV is offered with a 37.9 kWh battery pack, which, it is claimed, gives it a range of 331 kilometres. This comparatively lesser range puts off many buyers who are looking for an electric car for long-distance travel.

To tackle this situation, the company is reportedly planning to introduce a Windsor EV with a 50 kWh battery pack. This long-range variant is expected to be launched this month, April 2025, with a claimed range of 460 kilometres on a single charge.

2. Hyundai Venue EV

Hyundai is investing in the production of a compact electric SUV. Launching in India, it will compete against the Tata Nexon EV. Currently, there is little information available about the project. It is believed that the electric Venue will be based on the next-gen ICE Venue, which should hit the Indian market by late 2025.

The Venue EV is likely to be built on the born-electric E-GMP (K) platform, which will also be employed in the Insert-based EV (codenamed HE1i); however, the confirmation is yet to be cast. We expect that the claimed range of the Venue will be around 400 kilometres on a single charge.

3. Kia Syros EV

Launched in February 2025, news around the development of the Syros EV soon began making rounds on the internet. If all goes according to plan, the electric SUV should therefore hit the Indian market by the end of this year or early 2026. We expect that the Syros EV would get revised bumpers, new aerodynamic alloy wheels, and some EV-specific branding.

Although the company has been coy concerning battery pack details, claims have it that the Syros will offer a range of around 400 kilometres on a single charge. This will position the Kia Syros alongside the Tata Nexon EV and Mahindra XUV400 EV in terms of competition.

4. Maruti Suzuki eWX-Based EV

The eWX concept was showcased by Suzuki during the 2023 Tokyo Motor Show. In India, Maruti Suzuki will launch a new small EV based on the eWX. The design patent for the eWX was filed in the country in the first half of 2024. Expected to be launched in 2026-2027, the electric hatchback shall be the entry-level EV for the Japanese carmaker in the Indian market.

There are reports that further suggest that it could be the electric version of the Wagon-R. While not much information is available regarding the project, the eWX-based EV is expected to have a claimed single-charge range of about 250 kilometres.
