What the Most Recent Crash Findings Show About the Made-in-India Maruti Baleno

The Latin NCAP crash test program has assessed the Maruti Baleno, one of the most well-liked premium hatchbacks in India. The findings demonstrate how the level of equipment available has a substantial impact on safety performance. The overall rating reflects the lack of sophisticated driver aid technologies, even though variants with more airbags demonstrate better protection for occupants. The test highlights how crucial comprehensive safety measures are becoming in mass-market vehicles.

  • The performance of the Baleno in the most recent Latin NCAP crash tests with various equipment levels is examined in this article.

  • It describes the elements that increased or decreased its safety scores in comparison to other evaluations, such as Bharat NCAP.

The New Car Assessment Programme for Latin America and the Caribbean (Latin NCAP) has conducted crash tests on the Maruti Suzuki Baleno, which is produced in India and sold in numerous countries across the world. These tests, which are renowned for being difficult, concentrate on how well a vehicle protects its occupants and other vulnerable drivers. The safety performance of the Baleno varies greatly based on its safety equipment, according to recent data.

Various Evaluations Depending on Safety Features

Two iterations of the Baleno, one with two airbags and the other with six, were evaluated by Latin NCAP. The two-airbag model only scored 42 percent for adult occupant protection, earning it a poor 1-star rating. The six-airbag variant, on the other hand, received a higher 2-star safety rating, mostly because of superior side impact protection and more thorough head and chest protection.

This demonstrates the importance of more airbags and safety gear for crash test performance. When side and curtain airbags were installed, the adult protection score increased dramatically, improving overall occupant safety.

Performance in Important Safety Domains

In both versions, the Baleno provided adequate child safety when child seats were correctly mounted using ISOFIX mounts and demonstrated quite decent protection for adults in frontal crashes.

The percentage of child occupant protection was approximately 65%, suggesting satisfactory performance in this area. Nevertheless, ratings for safety assist systems and pedestrian protection are still low. The absence of features like lane assistance and autonomous emergency braking, which are typical of more expensive vehicles, lowers the total safety assist grade.

Although frontal structure areas can shield walkers to some extent, there are still locations that perform only modestly in impacts, as seen by the pedestrian safety score of less than 50%.

How This Differs From Other Safety Examinations

The Baleno has performed better in certain other safety programs, like Bharat NCAP, where it obtained a higher star rating for adult and child protection, in contrast to Latin NCAP's more stringent requirements. This contrast demonstrates how a vehicle's stated safety score might be impacted by various crash testing requirements and safety technology levels.

The significance of cutting-edge safety features and strong safeguards for both occupants and pedestrians is highlighted by Latin NCAP findings. Selecting models with extra airbags and other safety features can significantly improve crash performance for customers who are concerned about maximum safety.
