2027 Hyundai i20 Leaked Ahead of Global Debut

The next-generation Hyundai i20 has surfaced online in production-spec form before its official global reveal, offering a detailed preview of a hatchback that has grown bolder, more upright and noticeably more premium inside. With a crossover-inspired silhouette and a cabin anchored around a sweeping panoramic display, this is an i20 that looks ready to take on the premium hatchback segment with considerably more confidence than its predecessor.

  • The 2027 Hyundai i20 has leaked in production form, revealing a crossover-inspired redesign with a bolder exterior and an overhauled cabin featuring a panoramic display.

  • The next-gen model is expected to be officially unveiled imminently, with a global launch anticipated later in 2026.

Hyundai's next-generation i20 has appeared online ahead of its official global reveal, giving the world an unfiltered look at what is shaping up to be the most significant redesign the popular hatchback has received in years.

The leaked images, which appear to show the car in final production specification, cover both the exterior and interior in considerable detail.

An official unveiling is expected in the coming days, with a market launch anticipated later this year. When it does arrive, the new model will replace the current-generation i20 sold across global markets.

A Hatchback That Now Looks Like a Crossover

The most immediately striking aspect of the new i20 is how much it has moved away from the conventional hatchback template. The 2027 i20 adopts a crossover-inspired appearance with squared-off proportions, chunky black body cladding and a higher-riding stance.

Up front, slim headlamps are integrated into a wide black fascia that gives the car a cleaner, more minimalist face than the outgoing model. Along the flanks, sharp body creases and blacked-out pillars reinforce that rugged character, while newly designed alloy wheels complete the look.

At the rear, connected LED tail lamps stretch across the full width of the vehicle. The overall silhouette signals that Hyundai has deliberately prioritised a stronger road presence for this generation, nudging the i20 closer in spirit to a crossover without officially becoming one.

Cabin Gets a Sweeping Panoramic Makeover

A New Dashboard Built Around Technology

Step inside and the transformation is arguably even more dramatic. The leaked images reveal a new dashboard layout centred around a large panoramic display that combines the digital instrument cluster and infotainment touchscreen within a single housing, similar to the arrangement seen in the Hyundai Venue.

Physical controls have been retained for key functions, which is a sensible decision that prevents the car from feeling overly complicated on the move. The centre console has been redesigned to appear cleaner and more contemporary throughout.

The steering wheel is new and draws inspiration from Hyundai's latest global models. The door pads feature a fresh dual-tone treatment with circular speaker elements and redesigned grab handles. Taken together, these changes mark a clear step up in perceived interior quality.

More Space Where It Matters

The boot area appears spacious and practical, and the rear seats retain a split-folding arrangement to improve cargo flexibility. The taller roofline and boxier proportions are also expected to translate into improved headroom and cabin space compared to the outgoing model.

Petrol Engines Expected to Carry Over for India

Hyundai has not yet confirmed any powertrain details, but the expectations are fairly straightforward. International versions are likely to feature updated turbocharged petrol engines paired with mild-hybrid technology to comply with tightening emission standards.

For India specifically, the 2027 i20 is expected to carry forward the familiar 1.2-litre naturally aspirated and 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine options. Full technical specifications will only be confirmed at the time of the official reveal.
