BYD has announced the first major update to its popular Dolphin electric vehicle (EV) since its 2021 debut. The 2026 BYD Dolphin boasts a mid-cycle facelift, combining enhanced design elements, updated dimensions, and an expanded range of powertrain options.
Refined Styling Updates
The facelifted Dolphin introduces a modernized front fascia, including:
Newly designed headlights extend into the fenders.
A slimmer grille and reduced air intake, provide a polished and aerodynamic look.
Updated bumpers and refreshed taillight graphics at the rear, aligning its aesthetic with the BYD Seal 06 GT.
While the profile remains mostly unchanged, the addition of 16-inch and 17-inch alloy wheel designs adds a fresh touch to the Dolphin’s overall appeal.
Expanded Dimensions
The updated Dolphin has grown slightly, offering a more spacious and versatile design:
Length: 4280mm
Width: 1770mm
Height: 1570mm
Wheelbase: 2700mm
This makes the 2026 model 155mm longer than the original Chinese-spec model, placing it just 10mm shorter than the global-spec variant launched in 2023.
New Powertrain Options
The 2026 BYD Dolphin introduces a mid-range powertrain to bridge the gap between the current options. Buyers now have three motor outputs to choose from:
70kW (carried over).
130kW (new mid-range option).
150kW (carried over).
Paired with BYD’s Blade LFP battery technology, the facelifted Dolphin offers two battery capacities:
44.93kWh, providing a range of 420km (CLTC).
60.48kWh, delivering a range of 520km (CLTC).
These configurations maintain the Dolphin’s balance between efficiency and performance, making it an attractive option for urban drivers.
Market Launch and Pricing
The refreshed Dolphin is set to debut in China by mid-to-late 2025. Currently priced between ¥99,800 and ¥129,800 in China (approximately NZ$23,700 to NZ$30,800), the Dolphin continues to position itself as a value-driven EV.
