Step 1: Gather Required Documents

  • Enter your vehicle registration number to check how much pending vehicle tax you have

  • Pay the pending vehicle tax using online payment options such as net banking or debit card

Step 3: Apply for RC Renewal Online

  • Visit the Parivahan website

  • Select "Online Services" from the menu

  • Select "Vehicle-Related Services" from the drop-down menu

  • Choose your state from the list

  • Click on "Proceed"

  • Select "Renewal of Registration" from the menu

  • Enter your vehicle registration number and chassis number

  • Click on "Validate Registration Number/Chassis Number" button

  • Fill in the application form with the required details and upload the necessary documents

  • Pay the RC renewal fees according to the vehicle type (see fees table above)

  • Submit the application

Step 4: Receive Renewed RC Book

  • Once your application is processed and approved, you will receive the renewed RC book by mail or can collect it from the RTO office.

Remember to apply for RC renewal at most 60 days before the expiry date, pay the due vehicle tax, and submit all required documents and fees for a successful renewal process.

How to Transfer Vehicle Ownership at Chandigarh RTO

Obtain a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the seller.

  • Visit the official website of parivahan.

  • Hover your cursor over "Online Services" and select "Vehicle-related Services."

  • Select your state, enter the RTO number, and click "Proceed."

  • Select "Apply for Transfer of Ownership, Change of Address, Hypothecation, Duplicate RC."

  • Enter your vehicle details, such as the Vehicle Registration Number and the last five characters of the chassis number, then click "VERIFY DETAILS."

  • Check the details displayed on the generated page, including the owner's name, RC number, and insurance validity.

  • Make the payment for the transfer fee.

  • Take a printout of the receipt; you must submit it at your local RTO.

  • Pay the pending tax of the vehicle.

  • Visit your local RTO with the required documents, including the NOC, Form-29, Form-30, Form-31 (if applicable), original RC book, the insurance certificate, the PUC certificate, proof of identity and address, and the payment receipt.

  • Pay the RC transfer fee, which is ?150 for two-wheelers and ?300 for four-wheelers.

  • Pay the transfer tax, which is approximately 15% of the original tax or 1% of the total cost (whichever is higher) for vehicles under 8 years old. For vehicles older than 8 years, a flat rate of 1% or Rs.100 is charged.

  • Once all the documents and fees are verified, the RTO will process the transfer of ownership and issue a new RC.
