The RTO Office in Bengaluru is a government organization responsible for all transport-related operations in Bengaluru, Karnataka.

Functions of Bengaluru RTO

All RTOs have the same functions but some regional RTO may have some specific functions along with the general rules and regulations.

The specific functions of RTO Bangalore include:

  • Renewal and Issuance of License for the Bengaluru residents.

  • Issuance and Renewal of Permits such as Vehicle Registration Certificate

  • Toll-tax management and collection of challan payments

  • Motor Driving and learning schools for learners

  • Issuing of the transfer of ownership, hypothecation, and no-objection certificate

How to Register a Vehicle at Bengaluru RTO

There are two ways to register a vehicle at the Bengaluru RTO:

  1. Temporary Registration: It is valid for a 30-day period. During this period, the owner has to apply for permanent registration through a registered RTO in the Bengaluru

  2. Permanent Registration: It is generally valid for 15 years and can be renewed later on. However, for commercial vehicles, it is 20 years period. It can be accessed through a valid process of registration at the RTO Office.

Procedure for the registration of a Vehicle at the Bengaluru RTO Office is as follows:

  • Visit the official website or the Parivahan Sewa website.

  • Select 'the Vehicle Registration' section.

  • You will be asked to apply for a temporary registration or permanent registration.

  • Select the type of registration and enter valid information and attach the required documents.

  • Once the filling process is done, take the printout of the application.

  • Submit the printout with

    • Form 20 (For applicants who are applying for registration for the first time.

    • Form 21 of CMVR (Certificate of Sale from whom the vehicle has been purchased)

    • Form 22 and 22A (Declaration regarding pollution and safety compliances(

    • Copy of Valid Insurance Certificate and fitness certificate

    • Copy of Address Proof (Aadhaar Card, Pass Book)

    • Form 60 or 61 for the agriculturist only.

  • Once the verification is complete, you will get the registration certificate at your doorstep within 90 days.

How to Renew Registration for a Vehicle at Bengaluru RTO

Renewal of Vehicle registration can be done within 60 days of the expiration period of your existing registration for continuous use.

The procedure is similar to the process of registering your vehicle:

  • Choose the 'Renewal of Vehicle Registration Certificate' Section on the Parivahan Sewa Website.

  • The required documents are the same as new RC. You can use the old registration certificate and Form 25 to apply for the renewal of registration for a vehicle at the nearest Bengaluru RTO office.

  • In case you loss of RC, you need to file an FIR

  • Within 30 days you will get the confirmation and a new RC at your doorstep

How to Transfer Vehicle Ownership at Bengaluru RTO

Transfer of ownership means the transfer of possession of your vehicle from one person to another.

It is very important to transfer the ownership using the lawful method to save yourself from contingent losses or liabilities after the sale of the vehicle to another party.

Steps to transfer vehicle ownership at Bengaluru RTO:

  • Visit the Parivahan Sewa website

  • Go to the vehicle registration service option and select Karnataka from the dropdown menu.

  • A screen pop will prompt you to enter your Vehicle Registration number and other details.

  • Select Basic Services (Transfer of Ownership, Hypothecation, Duplicate RC, or Address Change) under Online Services

  • Enter the following details:

    • Registration Number
    • Mobile Number
    • Classic Number
  • Select the 'Transfer of ownership' option while filling in the application form and other details on the screen.

  • Enter the Owner's details, and Select RTO and insurance details.

  • After paying the required fee, you will get an application number for further reference.

  • Use the same screen and click on Print Forms 29 and 30.

  • Visit the nearest office with a copy of the expected documents such as RC, E-Receipt, Form 29 and 30, and other related documents to seek verification of vehicle transfer.

  • Confirmation will be sent to you within 30 working days.

How to Check Bengaluru RTO Information on Park+

All RTOs are managed under the Ministry of Road and Transport.
