With the launch of the G 580 EQ, Mercedes-Benz India made a spectacular start to the new year. The famous G-Wagen now gets electric power thanks to the recently released Mercedes-Benz G 580 with EQ. The carmaker has disclosed that the 3 crore model is already sold out at launch.
Mercedes G580 already received many orders
Mercedes has secured enough orders to ensure that the G 580 EQ remains sold out until the third quarter of 2025. Although the firm did not reveal how many units were set aside for the Indian market, the positive response further demonstrates the enormous demand for the electric off-roader.
Originally conceived as the EQG concept in 2021, the Mercedes G 580 made its debut at the first Bharat Mobility Expo in 2024. With great fanfare, the production edition has officially arrived in India.
Details about the New Mercedes G580 EQ Technology
The new electric G-Class has the same classic form and style as its petrol and diesel variants. Along with the clamshell hood, round headlamps, and a closed-off grille with horizontal slats that mirror the ICE version, the instantly recognizable boxy design has been kept. It receives a lighting surround that was retained from the original design.
The G 580's electric character is reflected in the cabin's twin-screen dashboard arrangement, propeller-themed air vents, and other improvements. Five exterior colors and one inside color option will be offered for the new offering.
Specifications of Mercedes Benz G 580 EQ Technology
Four electric motors—one on each wheel—provide the Mercedes-Benz G-Class's power, generating 579 horsepower and an incredible 1,164 Nm of peak torque. With its enormous 116 kWh battery pack, the SUV can travel 473 km (WLTP) between charges.
Although this might not seem like much in comparison to the EQS sedan or SUV, which have a significantly longer range, the G 580 is significantly heavier at a little over 3 tons. Although the top speed is limited to 180 kmph, the G 580 can sprint from 0 to 100 kmph in 4.7 seconds with power traveling to all four wheels.
Conclusion
A major turning point in the brand's electrification journey has been reached with the introduction of the Mercedes-Benz G 580 EQ, which combines the legacy of the venerable G-Class with state-of-the-art electric technology. High-end luxury amenities, a strong quad-motor system, and an iconic style make the G 580 an unmatched off-road and on-road vehicle. Its sellout until Q3 2025 due to high demand is evidence of how popular it is among the premium EV segment. The G 580 EQ is a daring statement for the future of electric off-roading as Mercedes-Benz keeps pushing the envelope of innovation.
