Tata Tiago Smart Base Variant Arrives at Dealerships

The Tata Tiago facelift's entry-level Smart Petrol MT variant has begun arriving at dealerships across India, priced at Rs 4.69 lakh (ex-showroom). A detailed walkaround of the base trim reveals what the no-frills package includes and what it leaves out, giving prospective buyers a clearer picture of whether the most affordable door into the facelifted Tiago makes sense for them.

  • The Tata Tiago facelift's base Smart Petrol MT variant is now reaching dealerships at an ex-showroom price of Rs 4.69 lakh.

  • A walkaround of the Smart trim reveals a mix of expected omissions and a few surprisingly generous inclusions for the price.

Tata Motors has launched the Tiago facelift with an entry price of Rs 4.69 lakh (ex-showroom), and the base Smart Petrol MT variant is now making its way to showrooms.

Positioned deliberately to pull in first-time buyers and those eyeing rivals, this trim sets the floor for the updated hatchback. A detailed walkaround of the variant gives a thorough look at what the most affordable Tiago facelift actually delivers.

What the Smart Trim Looks Like on the Outside

The base variant wears its budget positioning visibly on the outside. The door handles are not body-coloured, which is the quickest way to distinguish this trim from higher-spec versions that get chrome-studded handles.

The outside rear-view mirrors carry a raw plastic finish rather than a painted one, and the side turn indicators are positioned on the front quarter panel rather than on the ORVMs. The mirrors themselves are manually adjustable via an interior stalk rather than being electrically operated.

There is no rear wiper, washer, or defogger on this trim, and the absence of a remote key means there is no central locking or boot request sensor either. Wheel covers are missing as standard, though Tata does offer them as an accessory.

On a more positive note, the wheel arch cladding and the C-pillar black element are shared with mid and top variants, which gives the Smart trim a reasonably consistent visual identity with the rest of the range.

What’s Inside the Cabin?

Step inside and the picture is a touch more encouraging than you might expect. Tata has carried over the same fabric inserts on the dashboard and door trims that feature across all variants of the facelift.

The redesigned dashboard also frees up noticeably more cabin space compared to the outgoing model, which is a genuine benefit regardless of trim level.

Where the Smart Trim Keeps Pace with the Rest

Surprisingly, the interior lighting uses LEDs, matching the top variant. The instrument cluster and the new steering wheel with steering-mounted controls are identical to those found higher up the range.

Grab handles follow the same specification, too, with soft-retracting units at the front-left and fixed ones at the rear.

What Has Been Left Out in the Cabin

Power windows and central locking are absent, as is a music system, speakers, and a dimmable interior rear-view mirror. The front does not have a centre armrest.

Manual air conditioning is standard. The centre console mirrors the mid-variant layout but without a wireless charger. The spare wheel also appears to have been dropped in favour of a puncture repair kit, though a parcel shelf is available at an additional nominal cost.

Engine and Gearbox Remain Unchanged

The Smart variant is powered by the same 1.2-litre petrol engine paired with a manual gearbox as seen across the Tiago facelift range. The only visual difference inside is a simpler gear knob compared to higher trims.

At Rs 4.69 lakh, the Tiago Smart offers Tata's facelifted hatchback at a genuinely competitive entry point. The omissions are real but largely predictable for the price bracket, and a few inclusions like LED lighting and the updated instrument cluster make it a more rounded package than its price tag might initially suggest.
