In recent years, CNG vehicles have grown to become more feature-rich than their predecessors. They now provide practically all of the convenience features found in their top-tier petrol models. Despite these developments, CNG vehicles have lacked a major convenience feature that many customers require: the availability of an automatic transmission.
Following the pattern and alternative, Tata Motors teased the Tigor and Tiago CNG automatic models a few days ago. The carmaker has now begun bookings for these twin AMT CNG models. Potential buyers can reserve the Tiago and Tigor CNG AMT variants for a nominal fee of Rs. 21,000 by visiting their nearest Tata Motors authorized showroom or using the brand's web portal.
While Tata has yet to announce the sort of automatic transmission it would provide with the CNG models of the Tiago and Tigor, it is expected to be a 5-speed AMT based on the existing powertrain and transmission lineup for these two vehicles.
The Tiago CNG AMT will be available in three different configurations, but the Tigor CNG AMT would only be available in two. In addition, the car manufacturer has introduced new exterior colors for the Tiago, Tiago NRG, and Tigor models. While the Tiago now comes in Tornado Blue, the Tiago NRG and Tigor are available in Grassland Beige and Meteor Bronze, respectively.
Also we know that both cars will be powered by a 1.2-litre, three-cylinder petrol-CNG engine. This motor is set up to produce 72 horsepower and 95 Newton-meters of torque. Particularly, both the Tiago CNG AMT and the Tigor CNG AMT will be equipped with twin-cylinder CNG technology.
