Tata's Avinya EV Lineup Starts with a Sportback and Continues with an SUV

To set the stage for a new premium EV family, Tata Motors is getting ready to launch the Avinya electric brand with a stylish sportback as its first model. Avinya, which is based on a cutting-edge born-electric platform that was co-developed with Jaguar Land Rover, will prioritise efficiency, design, and cutting-edge technology. Following the release of the sportback, Tata plans to add a number of SUVs to the portfolio, including bigger and seven-seat models. This would establish Avinya as a future-focused, globally prepared electric range targeted at urban consumers and long-distance comfort requirements.

  • Before releasing its SUV models, Tata Motors will introduce the first Avinya electric vehicle as a sportback.

  • The new Avinya lineup, which will feature many models, including larger SUVs, will be constructed on a high-end EV architecture shared with Jaguar Land Rover.

Already a market leader in India, Tata Motors is getting set to introduce a new line of high-end electric vehicles (EVs) under the Avinya brand. Tata intends to create excitement and set design direction for the new range by first introducing a sportback-style electric car, rather than starting with a standard SUV as many competitors do.

The sportback is being positioned as a brand-building product for Avinya and is anticipated to be a dynamic, low-slung, five-door EV with an eye-catching profile. Tata intends to create about 24,000 units annually, which is noteworthy considering that SUVs currently account for the majority of sales in India.

Based on Cutting-Edge Electric Architecture

The Avinya range's built-in born-electric platform, which was created in partnership with Jaguar Land Rover, is one of its key features. This state-of-the-art EV skateboard platform, known as the Electrified Modular Architecture (EMA), promises increased handling, efficiency, and scalability.

Future Jaguar Land Rover EVs will be built on this same platform, which Tata has stated it will significantly localise in India to maintain reasonable prices while offering top-notch features and performance.

What's Next for the Sportback

Tata intends to launch a number of SUVs after the sportback, which will launch Avinya in 2026. Five models in all, four SUVs and one sportback, are anticipated in the initial lineup.

Based on the Avinya X idea from the 2025 Bharat Expo, one of these SUVs will serve as a "brand pillar" and have a larger, more traditional SUV design with a seven-seater option.

Additional SUV variations will probably include a luxury model that is almost 4.9 meters long and a compact SUV that is around 4.4 meters long, expanding the range's appeal across various consumer needs.

Developing Tata's Leadership in EVs

Tata is making this audacious move into high-end electric designs in an effort to hold onto its dominant position in the EV market. In order to provide Tata with more depth to compete with growing electric vehicle options, the business recently celebrated important EV sales milestones and aims to launch further models, including the Sierra EV and a new Punch EV alongside Avinya.
