Skoda Volkswagen India Reaches 15 Million Units Production Milestone

Škoda Volkswagen India Reaches 1.5 Million Units Production Milestone

Škoda Auto Volkswagen India Private Limited (SAVWIPL) has achieved a significant production milestone at its advanced vehicle and engine manufacturing facility located in Chakan near Pune. Since the rollout of its first car, the Škoda Fabia, in 2009, the facility has produced over 1.5 million vehicles.

Milestone Models and Production History

The Chakan plant has been instrumental in manufacturing various models over the years. These include the VW Vento, Polo, Škoda Fabia, and Rapid. More recently, the facility has focused on new-generation models based on the MQB-A0-IN platform, such as the VW Taigun and Virtus, and the Škoda Kushaq and Slavia.

Leadership Remarks

Piyush Arora, Managing Director & CEO of SAVWIPL, expressed pride in the company's achievements, stating, “The significant output of 1.5 million vehicles at our Chakan Plant, coupled with the production milestone of four successful MQB models and the 10-year journey of our Engine Shop stand testament to our dedication to India’s automotive industry and SAVWIPL’s significant contribution to the nation’s talent and workforce.”

Engine Production Achievements

In addition to vehicle production, the engine shop at the Chakan facility has produced over 3.8 lakh (380,000) engines for the Volkswagen Group. The facility's commitment to domestic sourcing is highlighted by the reliance on Indian-manufactured components for the 1.0L TSI engines. While the 1.5-litre TSI engines are also produced in India, some of their components are sourced from overseas.

INDIA 2.0 Car Range Milestone

SAVWIPL has also celebrated the production of 300,000 units of its INDIA 2.0 car range, which includes the VW Taigun, Virtus, Škoda Kushaq, and Slavia. These vehicles are produced at both the Chakan, Pune, and Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar (formerly Aurangabad) facilities. The Chakan plant has an annual production capacity of 180,000 units, while the Aurangabad facility can produce 600,000 units annually.

Safety and Export Achievements

The current range of Volkswagen and Škoda cars produced in India are recognized for their safety, having achieved a full five-star safety rating for both adult and child occupants by the Global NCAP. Additionally, India serves as a global production hub for both brands, exporting over 30% of the total production to international markets.

This milestone underscores SAVWIPL's significant role in the Indian automotive industry and its commitment to quality, safety, and sustainability in vehicle production.
