Cyclone Remal has left a trail of destruction on cars, in Kolkata. The heavy rainfall and powerful cyclonic storm have impacted 600 vehicles in the city over the past couple of days. Anandabazar Patrika reported that waterlogging alone has caused damage to around 250 cars. The Kolkata Traffic Police mentioned that they had to handle 600 damaged cars resulting from the storm and rain.
Numerous car owners faced challenges as they lacked insurance coverage. These policies are crucial for safeguarding against damages caused by calamities such as floods and storms. Without this protection owners of affected vehicles encounter burdens. For instance, multiple cars parked in an area in the suburbs suffered extensive damage when an old factory chimney collapsed on them during the storm. Moreover, numerous vehicles parked in lying regions experienced water-related issues due to waterlogging across the city.

Repair centers in Kolkata have witnessed a rise in the influx of damaged vehicles being brought in for repairs. Modern cars equipped with sensors are especially vulnerable to water-induced damage. Prolonged exposure, to water can also lead to rusting of metal components.
Kolkata is not usually known for flood-like conditions, which is why many car owners do not buy extra insurance coverage for waterlogging and storm damage.
