Mg Zs Hybrid Achieves 4 Stars In Euro Ncap Crash Test A Closer Look

MG ZS Hybrid Achieves 4 Stars in Euro NCAP Crash Test: A Closer Look

MG ZS Hybrid: Euro NCAP Crash Test Results

The MG ZS Hybrid has secured an impressive 4-star rating in the Euro NCAP crash tests, showcasing its commitment to safety across critical parameters. The rating is applicable to all variants of the ZS Hybrid, which is sold as the MG Astor in India.

Crash Test Scores Across Key Categories

  1. Adult Occupant Protection:

  2. Score: 75% (30.3 points)

  3. Frontal Impact: Scored 12.2 out of 16 points with stable passenger compartment performance.

  4. Lateral Impact: Scored 12 out of 16 points, with full marks in the side barrier test.

Rear Impact: Achieved 4 out of 4 points, with good protection against whiplash injuries.

  1. Driver and Passenger Safety:

  2. Notably, the SUV provided excellent protection for the driver and front passenger’s knees and femurs. However, marginal protection for the rear-seat passenger’s head was noted during the full-width rigid barrier test.

  3. Child Occupant Protection:

  4. Score: 82%
The SUV demonstrated good to adequate protection for child dummies in frontal offset and side barrier tests. It supports a variety of child restraint systems, although it lacks a "child presence detection" system to alert for unattended children inside the car.

  5. Vulnerable Road User Protection:

  6. Score: 73%
The ZS Hybrid’s structure and safety systems demonstrated commendable performance in protecting pedestrians and cyclists.

  7. Safety Assist:

  8. Score: 76%
The MG ZS Hybrid is equipped with advanced safety features like frontal airbags, seatbelt reminders, and systems to ensure door accessibility in emergencies such as submersion.

  9. However, far-side occupant protection was rated as poor due to the lack of mitigation measures against occupant-to-occupant injuries.

MG Astor in the Indian Market

In India, the MG ZS is marketed as the Astor, a crossover competing against popular models such as Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, and Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara. Priced between ₹9.98 lakh and ₹18.08 lakh (ex-showroom), the Astor is positioned as a premium offering in the segment.

While the Astor boasts a feature-rich cabin and advanced driver-assistance systems, the Euro NCAP results underline MG’s global focus on safety. This makes it an appealing choice for safety-conscious buyers in the competitive Indian SUV market.
