In terms of designs adopted from the sporty roadster, a convertible car in India seems like the real thing. However, this series has been limited to only a handful of people, mainly among the premium buyers, keeping in mind the country's weather conditions. But with the Cyberster, MG is going to break that tradition of India because this will also be the first-ever all-electric roadster to be sold in India.
It aims not only to increase MG's line-up but also to show users of luxury cars a performance-oriented sustainable alternative. The buzz is already buzzing for pre-orders with Cyberster, making it one of those moments to peek into what it has or will be able to do with MG's potential brand presence in our market.
New Avenue of Buying Sophisticated Experience
For a more exclusive and premium experience, MG will be bringing this model, Cyberster, into India through its Select dealerships. The Cyberster, after the M9, will be the second model from the UK-based car manufacturer to be sold through these exclusive outlets.
Similar strategies have been followed by companies like Maruti, which, apart from selling its models through Arena dealerships, now offers them through Nexa outlets for buyers seeking an upscale ownership experience.
Targeting even higher with MG's Select dealerships, those that come into the luxury car segment are with high-end offerings. For example, the Cyberster is the new BMW Z4. Interestingly, the company plans to have 14 Select outlets across 13 cities, including Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru, and Pune.
Specifications Overview
The Cyberster will be available in India from MG with a 77 kWh battery pack and a 510 PS/725 Nm dual electric motor set-up. It accelerates from 0 to 100 mph in just 3.2 seconds, the same time it took to set the record as the fastest car on the Sambhar Salt Lake. Cyberster is equipped with an all-wheel-drive system and offers a WLTP-claimed range of 443 km, which is impressive for a performance-oriented electric convertible.
It has many features like a four-screen setup, including a 7-inches infotainment system, a 10.25-inch central digital driver's display, and a touch-controlled unit for climate controls. Other features include an 8 speakers Bose sound system and 6-way electrically adjustable heated seats with a memory function. Safety features are six airbags , tyre pressure monitoring system(TPMS), and ADAS.
Competition
There is no such competition for the MG Cyberster. This will be the all-electric answer to the BMW Z4. Z4 uses a 3-liter twin-turbo inline-six petrol engine producing 340 PS (-160 PS) and 500 Nm (-225 Nm). Mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission, this Z4 accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.5 seconds.
Though pricing for the MG Cyberster hasn't been released as of yet, reports suggest that it is to be offered under MG's BaaS (Battery-as-a-Service) battery rental program at a price point of around Rs 50 lakh.
Price
The BMW Z4 ex-showroom in India is around Rs 93 lakh, virtually miles higher than the Cyberster.
Importance of Cyberster for MG
Through the introduction of the Cyberster, MG will gravitate towards a new segment, one that is sure to leave strong impressions on both car enthusiasts and owners, thus enhancing the brand image.
As the Indian luxury-car market lightly steps into electric mobility, the Cyberster had a great opportunity to shine as it is not just a roadster catering to a niche market but is also appealing to consumers entering the premium-car segment, so this really means more for MG.
What Makes The Cyberster Most Interesting
The MG Cyberster is not just another EV; it packs an all-wheel-drive configuration with an insane 510 PS, all in all, serious performance. It does 0-100 kmph in just 3.2 seconds, a dimension generally reserved for supercars. But it is not all about numbers.
The convertible top and scissor doors scream attention, defiant that anyone couldn’t ignore it. Once inside, the cockpit will envelop its buyers in a fighter-jet-inspired aura infused with four screens.
The Downside of Cyberster
The MG Cyberster might have very few drawbacks to combat, given its sleek lines and exhilarating performance in the real world. For instance, it seats only two people, which means the Cyberster is more of a toy than a car for day-to-day use. Then we have the sight of the Indian roads: Low sports cars and unpredictable speed breakers are not God’s gift to each other. Unless, of course, you have every single route worked out 100 percent, deliberate bottoming out of the Cyberster can become a frequent affair.
The WLTP figure claims a long range for the Cyberster; real-life conditions will be the tortuous test. Charging stations in India are being steadily enhanced, but quick ones that work reliably are still too few and far between than anyone would wish.
With the launch of the Cyberster, MG will be entering the minds of buyers as being versatile rather than just focused on mass-market products. Unlike any other product in its current lineup, the Cybersters unite stunning design with sheer excitement. A recipe seldom attributed to MG.
If MG can price it aggressively with their BaaS service, the Cyberster could prove ever so tempting.
