Mercedes Amg Announces The Development Of Electric Super Suv

Mercedes-AMG announces the development of electric super SUV

Mercedes-AMG is set to redefine the electric luxury SUV market with the development of a groundbreaking all-electric super SUV. Built on the bespoke AMG.EA platform, this powerful SUV will stand as a formidable competitor to models like the Lotus Eletre, the forthcoming Porsche Cayenne EV, and the BMW XM hybrid.

As AMG’s first all-electric super SUV, this model will follow the release of the second-generation Mercedes-AMG GT 4-door coupe in 2026, both of which will be powered by the AMG.EA platform.

The new SUV’s design philosophy and engineering are deeply rooted in AMG’s high-performance legacy. This model won’t be a modified version of an existing Mercedes SUV, such as the EQS, but rather a wholly independent creation developed from the ground up by AMG. This approach mirrors that of BMW’s M division with the BMW XM, delivering an SUV that brings AMG’s distinct engineering and performance to the electric vehicle (EV) sector.

The AMG.EA platform is based on Mercedes' MB.EA platform, but has been uniquely adapted to meet AMG’s rigorous performance standards. A key technological highlight is its use of advanced axial-flux motors, developed in collaboration with Yasa, a UK-based firm renowned for lightweight, high-output electric motors. These motors, capable of delivering up to 480 hp while weighing just 24 kg, allow the AMG.EA platform to support four motors — two on each axle. This setup could potentially give the new super SUV a combined output of over 1,000 hp, ensuring it delivers power levels consistent with AMG’s legacy of high-performance vehicles.

Additionally, the platform’s 800V electrical architecture and AMG-specific silicon anode battery pack promise enhanced power delivery and charging capabilities.

In terms of design, AMG insiders suggest that the new super SUV will be larger and more luxurious than the existing AMG GLE 63. It is expected to have a low-slung silhouette similar to the Vision AMG concept unveiled in 2022, with a length of around 5.1 meters and a generous wheelbase exceeding 3.0 meters. This design direction emphasizes both sporty elegance and spacious luxury, offering ample room and comfort for passengers while retaining a powerful, aerodynamic profile.

Set for a 2026 release, the Mercedes-AMG electric super SUV is poised to establish a new benchmark in the luxury electric performance market. With AMG’s groundbreaking engineering, the model will blend immense power, cutting-edge technology, and the luxurious sophistication expected of the AMG badge, heralding a new era of all-electric high-performance SUVs.
