Maruti Suzuki has a lot of new budget-friendly small cars and premium SUVs lined up for launch. The Indo-Japanese car company will also introduce facelift models, new-gen products, and special editions to its current product lineup.
Interestingly, Maruti has been working on compact and more affordable MPVs for the Indian market, which will be expected sometime in 2026. Codenamed YDB, this new Maruti compact MPV will be based on the Suzuki Spacia, one of the popular kei cars in Japan.
Dimensions
The Japan-spec Suzuki Spacia measures 3,395mm in length and has a two-row seating layout. However, the model coming to India would measure more in terms of length while remaining within the sub-4 meter category. Speculations suggest that the new Maruti compact MPV would have a three-row seating configuration, thus making it a family vehicle.
Features & Design
What further differentiates the India-spec model would be the absence of the sliding rear door that is available for the Japan-spec Spacia. It is also expected to miss out on some of the high-end features to bring the price down to compete with the India price structure. The new Maruti mini MPV may take inspiration from some attributes seen on the Fronx compact crossover and Baleno hatchback. It is expected to carry the boxy stance with blacked-out grille chrome embellishments, rectangular headlamps, and a wide air dam housed in the front of the bumper.
Engine Specs
In Japan, the Suzuki Spacia is available with a small capacity engine of 660cc. The new Maruti compact MPV is likely to carry forward the Z-series, a 1.2L, 3-cylinder petrol engine hailing from the Swift hatchback in India.
This motor could be offered with two gearbox options – a 5-speed manual and a CVT automatic. The gasoline unit generates a maximum power of 82bhp and 108Nm of torque.
Expected Price & Competition
The new Maruti MPV will be positioned just below the Ertiga and XL6 in the company's product portfolio. It will lock heads with Renault Triber and the yet-to-be-unveiled Triber-based MPV from Nissan. It will be the most affordable MPV from Maruti Suzuki, with an estimated starting price of around Rs 6 to Rs 7 lakh (ex-showroom).
