Maruti Suzukis First Electric Suv The E Vitara

Maruti Suzuki's First Electric SUV: The e-Vitara

Maruti Suzuki is set to introduce its first electric SUV, the e-Vitara, in India. This vehicle is the production version of the eVX concept and will debut at the Bharat Mobility Show in January 2025, with sales expected to begin by March 2025.

Battery Options and Performance

The e-Vitara will offer two battery choices: a 49kWh pack and a 61kWh pack. Both use BYD's Blade cell technology with lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) chemistry. The 49kWh battery powers a front-mounted motor producing 144bhp and 189Nm of torque.

The 61kWh battery comes in two setups: a single motor with 174bhp and 189Nm of torque, and a dual-motor all-wheel-drive (AWD) system delivering 184bhp and 300Nm of torque.

While exact range figures are not disclosed, the e-Vitara is expected to exceed 500 km on a full charge. The AWD variant includes a Trail mode for enhanced off-road capabilities.

Interior Features and Technology

Inside, the e-Vitara boasts a modern design distinct from other Maruti Suzuki models. It features a floating dual-screen setup for infotainment and instrumentation, a floating center console with a glossy black finish.

Also, two USB ports, a twin-spoke flat-bottom steering wheel, a rotary drive mode selector, rectangular AC vents with brushed silver surrounds, and an electronic parking brake with auto-hold function.

The seats combine fabric and leatherette materials. Standard features include single-zone automatic climate control, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility, and a wireless phone charger.

Notably, the e-Vitara may be the first Maruti Suzuki vehicle in India to offer an Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) suite, potentially including lane-keep assist and adaptive cruise control. Safety features comprise side and curtain airbags, Isofix child seat mounts, adjustable headrests, and three-point seatbelts for all passengers.

Design and Dimensions

The e-Vitara's design closely mirrors the eVX concept, with some refinements. The AWD variant rides on 19-inch alloy wheels with 225/50 R19 tires, while lower trims feature 18-inch alloys.

The SUV measures 4,275mm in length, 1,800mm in width, and 1,635mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,700mm and a ground clearance of 180mm. The kerb weight ranges from 1,702kg to 1,899kg depending on the variant.

Pricing and Production

Maruti Suzuki will manufacture the e-Vitara at its Gujarat facility, with approximately 50% of the production designated for export to Japan and Europe. Pricing is expected to start around ₹20 lahks for the base model, with the top variant—featuring the 61kWh battery, dual motors, and e-AllGrip AWD—priced near ₹25 lahks.

For an overview, The Maruti Suzuki e-Vitara marks the company's entry into the electric vehicle market, offering a blend of performance, technology, and safety features. With competitive pricing and a range exceeding 500 km, it aims to attract a broad spectrum of consumers in India and international markets.
