Maruti Suzuki Swift Cng Set To Launch Next Week Fuel Efficiency Meets Affordability

Maruti Suzuki Swift CNG Set to Launch Next Week: Fuel Efficiency Meets Affordability

Maruti Suzuki, India’s largest carmaker, is all set to expand its portfolio with the launch of the much-anticipated CNG variant of its popular hatchback, the Swift. Expected to hit the Indian market next week, the introduction of the Swift CNG comes as a response to the rising demand for more fuel-efficient vehicles amidst fluctuating fuel prices and increasing environmental awareness. The CNG model will be a part of the newly developed fourth-generation Swift series, which initially debuted with a petrol-only variant powered by the Z12E 1.2-litre engine.

What’s New with the Swift CNG?

While the exterior design of the Swift CNG will remain unchanged, mirroring the petrol version’s sleek and sporty aesthetics, the real transformation lies under the hood. The Swift CNG will be equipped with the same Z12E 1.2-litre, three-cylinder, naturally aspirated petrol engine used in the standard Swift models. This engine is known for its efficiency and performance, producing 82 bhp and 112 Nm of torque in the petrol variant. However, as is typical with CNG-powered vehicles, the output in the CNG version is expected to be slightly lower due to the nature of compressed natural gas as a fuel source.

The slight dip in power, however, will be compensated by the improved fuel economy, which is one of the key selling points of the Swift CNG. The engine will be paired with a 5-speed manual transmission, and there are indications that the CNG variant might also feature an Automated Manual Transmission (AMT) option, providing greater flexibility for drivers.

Fuel Efficiency: The Swift CNG’s Strong Suit

Fuel efficiency is at the heart of the Swift CNG’s appeal. Maruti Suzuki has built a reputation for offering cars that are easy on the pocket, and the Swift CNG is no exception. The petrol variant of the new-generation Swift already boasts an impressive mileage of 24.80 kmpl with the manual gearbox and 25.75 kmpl with the AMT. With the CNG kit, these numbers are expected to soar even higher.

According to early reports, the Swift CNG is projected to deliver an astonishing mileage of over 32 km/kg, placing it among the most fuel-efficient cars in its segment. This heightened fuel efficiency is sure to attract budget-conscious buyers who prioritize lower running costs, especially in urban areas where fuel prices are a constant concern.

Pricing and Competitors

In terms of pricing, the current petrol variants of the Maruti Suzuki Swift range from Rs 6.49 lakh to Rs 9.64 lakh (ex-showroom). The addition of the CNG kit is expected to increase the price by approximately Rs 90,000 to Rs 95,000, making the Swift CNG an attractive yet affordable option for those looking for a greener and more economical alternative.

Once launched, the Swift CNG will go head-to-head with other popular models in the factory-fitted CNG segment, such as the Hyundai Grand i10 Nios and the Tata Tiago. Both these hatchbacks have carved out a niche for themselves in the growing CNG market, and Maruti Suzuki is betting on the Swift’s strong brand presence and loyal customer base to capture a larger share of this competitive space.

Maruti Suzuki’s Expanding CNG Lineup

Maruti Suzuki’s dominance in the CNG market is no secret. With 14 models currently available with factory-fitted CNG kits, the brand has established itself as the go-to choice for CNG cars in India. In fact, in August 2024 alone, Maruti sold 49,602 units of CNG vehicles, which accounted for a significant 34.67% of its domestic passenger vehicle sales.

Popular models like the Ertiga, Brezza, and Dzire have already made a strong mark in the CNG segment, and now the Swift CNG is set to join this illustrious lineup. The introduction of the Swift CNG reflects Maruti Suzuki’s commitment to providing affordable, fuel-efficient vehicles that cater to the evolving preferences of Indian consumers.

Why the Swift CNG Matters

The launch of the Swift CNG is significant not just for Maruti Suzuki but also for the hatchback segment as a whole. Historically, the Swift has been one of the best-selling cars in India, known for its reliability, practicality, and affordability. However, with the increasing popularity of SUVs and crossovers, consumer interest in hatchbacks has somewhat diminished. By offering a CNG variant, Maruti Suzuki aims to reignite interest in the Swift while also tapping into the growing demand for more fuel-efficient and environmentally friendly cars.

The Swift CNG will likely appeal to a wide range of buyers, including city dwellers looking for a reliable daily driver, young professionals seeking an economical car, and environmentally conscious consumers keen on reducing their carbon footprint.

Conclusion: A Promising Future for the Swift CNG

As Maruti Suzuki gears up for the launch of the Swift CNG, the anticipation among buyers is palpable. With its stellar fuel efficiency, practical design, and competitive pricing, the Swift CNG is poised to become a game-changer in the CNG market. Whether it’s for budget-conscious consumers or those simply looking for a more sustainable driving option, the Swift CNG promises to deliver on all fronts.
