Maruti Suzuki Jimny Off Road Edition Unveiled With Striking Visual Updates

Maruti Suzuki Jimny Off-Road Edition Unveiled with Striking Visual Updates

Maruti Suzuki has unveiled the Jimny Off-Road Edition in Thailand, priced at an introductory THB 11.76 lakh (approximately ₹43 lakh). Known for its robust off-roading capabilities, the Jimny has gained significant traction as a lifestyle SUV.

However, this new variant focuses entirely on visual enhancements rather than mechanical upgrades, making it a striking option for enthusiasts seeking exclusivity.

Cosmetic Enhancements: A Visual Treat

The Jimny Off-Road Edition stands out with bold design elements, echoing the previously revealed Rhino Edition. Up front, it features the eye-catching "Heritage Grille," adorned with SUZUKI lettering, setting it apart from the standard model. A silver-colored skid plate beneath the grille adds an aggressive touch, while dual-tone and single-tone color options cater to varied tastes.

Moving to the side profile, distinctive decals in Yellow, Grey, and Red mimic terrain map views and weather patterns, emphasizing its off-road theme. The fuel tank cover is uniquely styled with "Jimny Off-Road Edition" lettering, reinforcing its exclusive identity. At the rear, red mud flaps and a spare wheel cover featuring a red rhino logo complete the rugged aesthetic.

Engine and Performance: Unchanged Core

Despite its "Off-Road Edition" moniker, the SUV retains the same naturally aspirated 1.5-liter, 4-cylinder petrol engine that powers the standard Jimny. Producing 100 bhp and 130 Nm of torque, the engine is paired with a 4-speed torque converter automatic transmission. While the Jimny's off-road pedigree is well-established, this edition lacks additional enhancements such as thicker tires, higher ground clearance, or underbody protection that could further bolster its off-roading prowess.

Potential for the Indian Market

While the Off-Road Edition has been launched in Thailand, Maruti Suzuki could consider introducing similar special editions in India to rejuvenate interest in the Jimny. Despite its global appeal, domestic sales figures stood at a modest 1,211 units in October 2024. A visually distinctive variant like the Off-Road Edition could attract lifestyle buyers and off-road enthusiasts in India, providing a fresh appeal in an increasingly competitive SUV segment.

Conclusion

The Jimny Off-Road Edition is a visual upgrade of an already iconic SUV, catering to those who prioritize style and exclusivity. While it lacks mechanical advancements, its bold design and unique features make it an attractive proposition. For markets like India, such editions could serve as a catalyst to boost the Jimny's presence and cement its position in the lifestyle SUV space.
