Mahindra has announced that it had 2.20 lakh open orders for its SUV line-up as of May 1, with its best-seller Scorpio range (Scorpio N and Classic combined) comprising the biggest chunk at 86,000 units. While the overall order backlog is marginally lower than the 2.26 lakh units reported on February 1, the pending orders for Scorpios have dropped by nearly 15% from 1.01 lakh units.
In an earnings call, Mahindra revealed it receives a combined 17,000 bookings on average per month for the Scorpio N and Classic models. Despite the high demand, the company has managed to reduce wait times on the Scorpio N to 3-5 months for both petrol and diesel variants from a maximum of 9 months. For the Scorpio Classic, the waiting period is a maximum of five months and has remained relatively unchanged. However, Mahindra did not disclose the exact split of pending orders between the N and the Classic models.
In addition to the Scorpio range, Mahindra’s other popular models also have substantial pending orders. The Thar has 59,000 units on backorder, while the XUV700 has 16,000 pending orders. These figures indicate the strong market demand for Mahindra’s SUV offerings.
The Scorpio N is available with two engine options: a 203hp, 2.0-liter turbo-petrol, and a 175hp, 2.2-liter diesel, with either a 6-speed manual gearbox or an automatic transmission. However, the 4WD option is exclusive to the diesel engine. The price of the Scorpio N ranges from Rs 13.60 lakh to Rs 24.54 lakh, ex-showroom India. On the other hand, the Scorpio Classic is equipped with a 132hp, 300Nm, 2.2-litre diesel engine paired with a 6-speed manual gearbox; it does not offer an automatic or 4WD option. The prices for the Scorpio Classic range from Rs 13.59 lakh to Rs 17.35 lakh.
