Mahindra recently conducted an investor conference where it announced it would double its monthly manufacturing capacity to address its issues with long waiting times.
Although the procedure would take longer than six months, the waiting time would eventually decrease. Mahindra's spokespeople claim that the company can now create 39,000 units every month, but only about 34,000 are produced. By the end of 2023, the SUV manufacturer hopes to increase output to almost 49,000 cars each month. For comparison, Hyundai presently produces an average of 70,000 units each month, while Tata currently produces roughly 50,000.
Mahindra had a sizable order backlog of almost three lakh units as of May 1. Additionally, its newly released SUVs, like the Scorpio N and XUV700, already have wait times of more than six months in a number of places. Therefore, it is likely that if you reserve the automobile today, you will receive it in 2024. The Thar has a shorter waiting period than the other two, with an average of 3–4 months. Due to their strong demand, there may be a year-long wait for the entry-level rear-wheel drive models.
The Scorpio, including the Scorpio Classic and Scorpio N, has more than 1.17 lakh units of pending orders, making it the most popular Mahindra SUV overall. According to sources, the Scoprio N, which is more costly and newer, may be delivered in around 75 weeks, while the Scorpio Classic has a waiting time of about 30 weeks.
On the strong order book, Rajesh Jejurikar, ED, Mahindra & Mahindra, said, "We have open bookings of 2.92 lakh units, we are still getting 55,000 units of fresh bookings every month. We are billing about 33,000 units a month and the cancellation is less than 8%. Post the launch of rear wheel drive of Thar, the order book has already crossed 50,000, so the momentum remains strong, we are trying to ramp up to meet the growing demand."
One of the main reasons Mahindra isn't anticipating any fresh releases in 2023 is the lengthy waiting time. The SUV manufacturer also stated that it is still coping with the semiconductor shortages, an issue that is still a typical occurrence for most other automakers, leading to long waiting times for all technologically advanced models.
