Mahindra Offers Full Buyback to First 999 BE 6 Batman Edition Buyers After Second Batch Backlash

When Mahindra launched the BE 6 Batman Edition in August 2025, all 999 units were snapped up in just 135 seconds, making it one of India's most electrifying limited-edition launches. But the unexpected arrival of a second batch in March 2026 sparked outrage among founding owners, prompting the automaker to take an unusual step and offer every one of those original buyers a full buyback of their vehicle.

  • Mahindra has offered to buy back units from the first batch of the BE 6 Batman Edition after receiving backlash online from existing owners over the release of a second batch of the same limited-edition model.

  • The buyback offer is only valid for 30 days, starting March 18, 2026, and owners need to contact their dealership to initiate the process.

Mahindra launched the first batch of the BE 6 Batman Edition in August 2025, allocating just 999 units for the entire country. All of these were spoken for within a matter of minutes after bookings opened — reportedly within 135 seconds. It was the sort of launch frenzy that made headlines and turned buyers into proud members of a very exclusive club.

That sense of exclusivity took a hit when Mahindra released a second batch of 999 units of the same Batman Edition on March 06, 2026, barely seven months after the first.

Despite the automaker raising the price by Rs 70,000 over the first batch, to Rs 28.49 lakh, the second lot was also fully booked within seven minutes of bookings opening. For many in the first wave, though, the excitement of owning something rare had quietly given way to frustration.

Social Media Uproar Prompts an Unusual Corporate Response

Several customers voiced their concerns on social media, expressing disappointment over the dilution of the limited-edition appeal. Owning one of just 999 units was the whole point for many of these early adopters, and the arrival of another 999 felt, to them, like a betrayal of that promise.

Responding to this feedback, Mahindra has now offered a full buyback option to the original 999 customers of the BE 6 Batman Edition, with the offer being extended specifically to the founding owners who were part of the first batch. Those who are interested can communicate the same to their dealership, which will then explain the next course of action. The offer is straightforward in its terms, but time-sensitive.

A 30-Day Window to Make the Call

Mahindra has stated that the offer will be valid for a period of 30 days from the date of communication. That clock started ticking on March 18, 2026, which means affected owners have until mid-April to decide whether they wish to part ways with their Batman Edition or hold on to it.

What Makes the Batman Edition Worth Keeping

A DC-Inspired Electric SUV With Serious Credentials

The BE 6 Batman Edition is a special collaboration between Mahindra and Warner Bros., inspired by the iconic DC superhero. Based on the top-spec variant, it features a distinct Satin Black finish with Batman-themed decals, gold accents, Bat emblems, and larger alloy wheels.

The interior follows an all-black theme with gold highlights, Batman branding, and a numbered plaque highlighting its limited production run.

Under the skin, the Batman Edition is based on the Pack Three variant of the BE 6, which comes with a 79 kWh battery pack powering a rear axle-mounted electric motor capable of delivering 286 hp and 380 Nm of torque, with an ARAI-claimed range of 682 km. The edition also comes equipped with dual 12.3-inch screens, a premium audio system, and ADAS, making it a blend of style, performance, and exclusivity.

Whether buyers choose to accept the buyback or keep hold of their Caped Crusader on wheels, Mahindra's willingness to listen to its customers says something meaningful about how seriously the brand is taking its relationship with early EV adopters in India.
