Mahindra is gearing up to launch its highly anticipated BE.05 electric SUV in January 2025. Exclusive spy shots indicate that the company is nearing production readiness, with plans to begin manufacturing at its Chakan plant later this year.
Design and Dimensions
The Mahindra BE.05 measures 4,370mm in length, 1,900mm in width, and 1,635mm in height, featuring a wheelbase of 2,775mm. Its dimensions are comparable to the EVX model, but it's the BE.05’s radical design that sets it apart. Designed by Pratap Bose, the SUV showcases striking elements like C-shaped lights, sharp angles, and functional scoops that contribute to its bold road presence. With a high stance and large wheels, the BE.05 is sure to capture attention.
Incorporating piano black finishes on various exterior elements, Mahindra aims to enhance the BE.05's sophisticated and premium appeal. Glossy black accents adorn the grille, headlight surrounds, mirror caps, and side panels, elevating its aesthetic, though they may be more prone to wear and tear.
Interior and Features
The interior design echoes the exterior's radical theme, featuring a flat dashboard under a low windscreen line for excellent forward visibility. However, the sharply raked rear glass may limit rearward visibility. A twin-screen setup is prominent, expected to include advanced tech and features that exceed those found in internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles. A standout feature is the ‘halo’ or floating wraparound element, which connects the dashboard to the center console, creating a cockpit-like atmosphere emphasizing a driver-centric experience.
Battery, Range, and Performance
Mahindra’s BE.05 is geared towards driving enthusiasts, featuring both rear-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive configurations with multiple powertrain options. The Valeo motor, rated at 170kW (231hp) and 380Nm, will power the rear wheels at launch. There's also potential collaboration with Volkswagen to integrate the APP 550 motor, which produces 286hp and 535Nm of torque, though it remains uncertain if this option will be available at launch.
The BE.05 offers two battery options: a 79kWh pack and a smaller 60kWh variant. The larger battery is anticipated to provide a range of approximately 450km under the WLTP cycle. Notably, the BE.05’s INGLO platform supports ultra-fast charging, allowing the 79kWh pack to charge from 20% to 80% in just 20 minutes when using a fast DC charger with an output of at least 175kW.
To safeguard long-term battery health, the BE.05's battery management system includes a “charging limit” feature, automatically halting the charge at a user-defined State of Charge (SOC). Additionally, drivers can choose from five levels of regenerative braking, with the most aggressive setting available through One Pedal Drive.
With its bold design, advanced features, and impressive performance specs, the Mahindra BE.05 is set to make a significant impact in the electric SUV market when it launches in January 2025. Stay tuned for further updates as Mahindra approaches the unveiling of this exciting new model.
