Jeep has officially teased the next-generation Compass SUV, which is set for its global debut in 2025. This marks the third generation of the Compass, a highly popular model that has been on sale globally since 2017. The teaser image offers a glimpse of what to expect from the all-new Compass, which will bring a fresh design, advanced technology, and versatile powertrain options, continuing Jeep's legacy of rugged SUVs.
New Design: Bold and Angular
The teaser reveals the new Compass will sport a more angular and muscular design compared to its predecessor. The SUV features a flat hood and roofline, which tapers slightly towards the rear, giving it a modern yet commanding stance. One of the most noticeable elements is the floating roof effect created by the blacked-out D-pillars and quarter glass surround.
Muscular flares around the wheel arches, along with additional cladding, contribute to the rugged appeal, while a strong character line extends from the front to the rear, emphasizing the SUV's dynamic profile. At the rear, horizontally positioned tail-lamps with squared borders sit just below the rear glass, with a short rear overhang merging into a tall rear bumper, giving the vehicle a compact yet bold appearance.
Underpinned by Stellantis’ STLA M Platform
The all-new Jeep Compass will be built on Stellantis' STLA M platform, which also underpins the Peugeot 3008, 5008, and Opel Grandland SUVs. This platform is designed to support various powertrain options, including internal combustion engines (ICE), mild hybrids, plug-in hybrids, and fully electric variants. Jeep has confirmed that the next-gen Compass will offer four-wheel drive capability along with these multi-energy propulsion systems, making it a versatile offering for different markets.
No Launch for India
Unfortunately for Indian consumers, this next-gen Compass won’t make its way to Indian shores. Sources indicate that the STLA M platform is not commercially viable for the Indian market. Stellantis would require significant investment to develop the new Compass for India, and the expected sales volumes do not justify such costs. Plans to manufacture Peugeot SUVs for export from India were also explored but didn’t meet the required volumes for feasibility.
Current-Gen Compass to Continue Until 2026
The current-generation Compass, which debuted in 2017 and received a facelift in 2021, will continue to be sold in India until 2026. This model, powered by a diesel engine, will remain Jeep’s key offering in the Indian market. Afterward, Jeep is expected to launch an all-new SUV based on Citroen’s platform, likely hitting the market by 2027.
As the new-gen Jeep Compass gears up for its global debut, it is clear that the brand continues to innovate and evolve. For now, the Indian market will have to wait and see what Jeep has in store for future models.
