Mahindra has updated its charger policy for the BE 6 and XEV 9e, allowing buyers to opt out of the mandatory charger installation in specific cases. Customers can now save costs if they meet certain conditions.
Mahindra Revises Charger Policy for BE 6 & XEV 9e Buyers
Mahindra has revised its charger policy for the BE 6 and XEV 9e electric SUVs in response to customer feedback. The company, which previously required buyers to install a 7.2kW or 11.2kW AC charger as an additional purchase, has now made the process more flexible.
Customers can now opt out of the mandatory charger installation if they meet certain conditions, providing greater freedom and cost savings.
Why the Change? Addressing Customer Concerns
Initially, Mahindra required customers to purchase a home or office charger along with their electric SUV. However, as more buyers shared their concerns, the brand realized that not every customer needed or wanted an additional charger.
Under the new policy, customers can skip the charger purchase if they meet one of the following conditions:
No Provision for a Private Charger
If the buyer’s home or workplace lacks a charging setup, they are now allowed to forgo the purchase of Mahindra’s AC charger.
Existing Compatible Charger
If a customer already owns a charger that meets Mahindra’s safety standards, they are not required to buy a new one.
Multiple Mahindra EVs, One Charger
Customers purchasing two or more Mahindra electric SUVs can use a single charger for all their vehicles, instead of being forced to buy a separate charger for each car.
These updates provide buyers with greater flexibility while ensuring they don’t pay for equipment they don’t need.
Charger Pricing & Options
Mahindra offers two AC charger options for the BE 6 and XEV 9e:
7.2kW AC Charger – ₹50,000
11.2kW AC Charger – ₹75,000
While some buyers still prefer the convenience of a home or office charger, others may rely on public fast-charging networks or shared charging setups. With this policy change, Mahindra ensures that customers only pay for a charger if they truly need it.
Mahindra BE 6 & XEV 9e: Pricing & Battery Options
Both the BE 6 and XEV 9e come with two battery pack options:
59kWh Battery
79kWh Battery
Mahindra has priced these models competitively:
BE 6 – Starts at ₹18.90 lakh (ex-showroom)
XEV 9e – Starts at ₹21.90 lakh (ex-showroom)
Deliveries for both models are set to begin in the coming weeks, and Mahindra expects strong demand, especially with its customer-friendly policy updates.
What This Means for EV Buyers
This move by Mahindra reflects a growing shift in India’s EV market—where buyers demand more flexibility in how they set up their charging infrastructure. Instead of forcing unnecessary costs, Mahindra’s revised charger policy ensures that buyers get exactly what they need.
As EV adoption continues to grow, such policy changes could encourage more carmakers to offer greater customization in their charging solutions. Mahindra’s decision could set a new standard for EV ownership in India.
For those considering the BE 6 or XEV 9e, the new policy means they can make a more cost-effective decision, choosing between home charging, shared chargers, or public charging networks based on their needs.
