The Maharashtra Transport Department has declared a one-month action plan aimed at vehicles with unauthorized fancy number plates while pressing for mandatory High-Security Registration Plate (HSRP) adoption.
Transport Commissioner Vivek Bhimanwar has declared the drive through an internal circular dated February 18, focusing on vehicles displaying personalized plates with words including "MAMA," "DADA," and "KAKA."
The endeavor coincides with the extended HSRP implementation deadline from March 31 to April 30. The figures so far indicate that the compliance level is a little disheartening, with only 5 lakh vehicles out of a little over 1.5 crore complying with HSRP installation, although it had become mandatory for vehicles registered after April 1, 2019.
In a crackdown under Section 190(1) of the Motor Vehicles Act, the department was also keeping up the pressure on errant vehicles. HSRP system meant to avoid the theft of vehicles and establish a universal identification standard having high-security features such as:
Special aluminium alloy construction
Retro-reflective film
India verification inscription
Chromium-based Ashok Chakra hologram
Hot-stamped blue 'IND'
Unique 10-digit laser-etched serial number
Installation Cost
The cost of installation HSRP will range from ₹531 to ₹879 all inclusive with GST and snap lock charges. The Transport Commissioner's office has mandated three agencies-Rosmerta Safety Systems Ltd, Real Mazon India Ltd., and FTA HSRP Solutions Pvt. Ltd.-for installations in all three zones of Maharashtra, thus making available this service for all vehicle owners.
The concerted efforts, therefore, are to modernize vehicle identification systems while boosting security measures along the state's transport network.
