Jaguar’s Legendary E-Type Roars Back to Life in Style

Jaguar's E-Type, one of the most iconic cars in automotive history, is making a stylish comeback. Fifty years after the final original E-Type left the production line in Coventry, Jaguar has resurrected this legendary model in the form of two ultra-exclusive cars. Created by Jaguar Classic, the brand's historic vehicles division, these new models combine the timeless allure of the E-Type with some modern comforts. They were meticulously crafted for a client in Southeast Asia, celebrating the past while adding a touch of the present.

A Timeless Classic with a Modern Touch

Both of these revived E-Types are based on the original Series I drophead coupes, a model known for its sleek design and elegant presence on the road. This new take on the E-Type also draws inspiration from the Commemorative Edition, a limited series from 1974 that marked the end of the E-Type’s first chapter. Jaguar Classic has stayed true to the original blueprint of the Series I, ensuring these cars feel as close to the 1960s experience as possible.

But while the essence of the past is strong, the new E-Types come with some modern updates. Each car is powered by a 3.8-liter straight-six engine, a classic Jaguar motor that was a hallmark of the E-Type from 1961 to 1964. However, to improve performance and reliability, Jaguar Classic replaced the traditional triple carburetors with electronic fuel injection. This modern tweak promises more power than the original’s 268 horsepower, though Jaguar hasn't revealed exact figures. The four-speed manual transmission has also been updated to five-speed, enhancing the car’s smoothness and drivability.

Exclusive Designs with Classic Colors

Jaguar Classic didn’t just focus on the mechanics; they gave equal attention to the aesthetics. The two new E-Types each sport a stunning and unique color scheme: one in Signet Green and the other in Opal Black. These colors are a nod to the vintage Jaguar palette and were part of the original options list in 1974, making these cars feel authentically vintage, yet fresh.

Inside, the classic design continues with refined touches that cater to modern comfort. Jaguar has fitted each E-Type with a Bridge of Weir tan leather interior, featuring hand-woven seats that exude luxury. The center console is crafted from aluminum and engraved with an original E-Type blueprint, a detail that speaks directly to the car's storied heritage. The dashboard is adorned with knurled silver toggle switches, blending vintage style with modern craftsmanship.

Luxurious Details Fit for a Collector

These E-Types go beyond mere appearance; they carry exclusive luxury details that make them even more special. Renowned British jewelry firm Deakin & Francis has crafted the “growler” Jaguar badges in 18-carat gold, accented with mother-of-pearl, adding a hint of opulence that’s sure to captivate car lovers. These badges reflect the attention to detail and craftsmanship that went into each of these cars, which each required over 2,000 hours to complete.

In terms of technology, Jaguar has subtly integrated a few modern conveniences. The new E-Types come equipped with a Bluetooth radio and a heated windscreen, making them more comfortable and practical to drive in today’s world. These additions are subtle and tastefully done, so they don’t detract from the car’s classic design. Instead, they make it easier for owners to enjoy their E-Type without sacrificing the authentic feel.

A Revival Amidst a New Era for Jaguar

The revival of the E-Type comes as Jaguar undergoes a significant transformation. Recently, the British automaker ended production of several models, including the F-Type sports car and the XE and XF sedans, as part of its shift towards an all-electric future. In December, Jaguar plans to unveil a concept for its first new-era electric vehicle, a luxurious GT, marking the beginning of its next chapter.

For now, Jaguar will focus on servicing its existing models and building its brand’s identity as it prepares for this electric transformation set for 2026. In a time of change, the reborn E-Type serves as a reminder of Jaguar's rich heritage and legacy in automotive design and engineering.
