The Range Rover and Range Rover Sport SUVs will be locally assembled in India, according to Jaguar Land Rover (JLR), in response to the growing demand from Indian consumers. The UK plant will continue to meet global demand, but the "Made-in-India" Range Rover SUVs will only be available to satisfy Indian demand.
Local Assembly of Variants
For the time being, India is only producing select local assembly versions of the Range Rover and Range Rover Sport. Along with the Range Rover Sport Dynamic SE (petrol and diesel), the Range Rover Autobiography (petrol) and Dynamic HSE (diesel) models have a long wheelbase.
Huge Discounts
The shift towards localization enables Indian consumers to save a substantial amount of money on these high-end SUVs. There would be price reductions for the locally produced models, with the Range Rover Autobiography Variant seeing the biggest decrease at Rs 56 lakh. The localization process will also help the entry-level Range Rover Sport models.
Powertrain
The same 3-liter turbo-petrol and diesel engines will be available for the localized versions of the Range Rover and Range Rover Sport. All-wheel drive and an 8-speed automatic transmission are standard with these engines. The 4.4-liter V8 turbo-petrol engine, the other engine option for some versions, will not be localized for India.
Delivery and Future SUVs
Deliveries of the locally produced Range Rover will start today, and on August 16, 2024, the Range Rover Sport deliveries will commence. The Range Rover, Range Rover Sport, Range Rover Velar, and Range Rover Evoque are the current models in Land Rover Range Rover's inventory in India.
In addition, Range Rover is working on an all-electric Range Rover Sport that will be on sale in 2025. This fully electric SUV is expected to be unveiled by the end of 2024. The UK plant will be the exclusive location for the production of the all-electric versions.
