Is The Hyundai Ioniq 5 Already The Car Of The Year

Is the Hyundai Ioniq 5 already the car of the year?

The Hyundai Ioniq 5 has captivated the hearts of many already. This car is Hyundai’s flagship EV and could be the car of the year. The car’s features, reliability, performance, and design undoubtedly make it one of the best options available in the current automotive market. This review brings to you detailed information about the car from performances to specialty:

Eye-Catching Design and Features

One of the most striking aspects of the Ioniq 5 is its futuristic design. The vehicle is adorned with retro-cool ‘pixel’ headlamps and a unique LED configuration on the front bumper. These design elements, while seemingly trivial, add a charming aesthetic that appeals to many. The large glovebox, which slides out like a drawer, and numerous cubbyholes between the front seats are practical touches that highlight the car’s user-friendly design.

The interior is spacious, reflecting the car’s status as a born EV. The flat floor and ample space between the seats provide a comfortable ride for all passengers. The car even offers the quirky feature of flattening the front seats into a bed-like arrangement, a testament to Hyundai's commitment to innovation.

High Performance and Efficiency

The Hyundai Ioniq 5 isn’t just about looks; it’s a powerhouse on the road. Equipped with a 72.6kWh battery, the car delivers an impressive range. During city commutes heavy with traffic, it consistently achieves over 6km per kWh. This efficiency is complemented by the car’s quick charging capabilities. On a fast DC charger, it can go from 21% to 73% battery in just 15 minutes, making it a practical choice for long-distance travel.

User Experience and Practicality

Driving the Ioniq 5 is a delight. Its light controls and good visibility make maneuvering through city traffic a breeze. Despite its large size, it is comparable to a Mercedes GLE, it handles well, and the ground clearance is sufficient to tackle larger speed breakers without a hitch. However, some design choices, like the column-mounted drive selector, can be confusing at first. It's a minor gripe in an otherwise well-thought-out design.

Luxury at a Competitive Price

The Ioniq 5 stands out in its price range. Priced at Rs 50 lakh, it might seem steep for a Hyundai, but the value it offers is undeniable. When compared to luxury SUVs that cost significantly more, the Ioniq 5 holds its ground. Its sister car, the Kia EV6, is priced Rs 15 lakh higher, underscoring Hyundai’s strategic decision to locally assemble the Ioniq 5, thereby keeping costs down without compromising on features.

Practical Drawbacks

While the Ioniq 5 shines in many areas, it has its quirks. The white upholstery, though stylish, tends to get dirty quickly, especially in areas with frequent contact. The pop-out door handles, while innovative, accumulate water and dirt, leading to a mucky residue. Additionally, the large 20-inch wheels, though visually appealing, are prone to scuffing against curbs, and the car arrived with all four wheels already scuffed.

A Comparative Perspective

Switching between the Ioniq 5 and smaller cars like the MG Comet provides an interesting perspective. While the Comet’s tiny size and quirky design draw curious glances, the Ioniq 5’s presence is more commanding. The spacious interior and advanced features make it a superior choice for longer journeys and daily commutes alike.

To sum up, The Hyundai Ioniq 5 is a testament to how far EV technology has come. Its blend of innovative design, high efficiency, and practical features make it a standout in the crowded EV market. While it has a few minor drawbacks, the overall experience it offers justifies its price tag. As more people become aware of its capabilities, the Ioniq 5 is likely to become a common sight on the roads. For those looking for a reliable, stylish, and efficient electric vehicle, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 is an excellent choice.
