Hyundai Verna Based Kia K3 Scores 5 Stars In Latin Ncap

Hyundai Verna-Based Kia K3 Scores 5 Stars in Latin NCAP

The Kia K3 sedan, along with its hatchback and crossover counterparts, has made headlines by becoming the first Kia model to earn a five-star rating in the Latin NCAP crash tests. Sharing the same platform as the Hyundai Verna, which is sold in India, the Kia K3 showcases impressive safety features that contributed to its high rating. This mirrors the Hyundai Verna's performance, which also received a five-star rating in the Global NCAP crash test conducted in 2023.

Latin NCAP Crash Test Results for Kia K3

Latin NCAP, which evaluates vehicle safety in Latin American countries, recently revealed the results for the Kia K3 series, encompassing the sedan, hatchback, and cross models. All three variants scored five stars in the crash test, a testament to their superior safety standards. Here’s a breakdown of the K3's performance in various safety categories:

  • Adult occupant protection: 87%

  • Child occupant protection: 84%

  • Pedestrian protection: 65%

  • Safety assistance systems: 81%

These scores underline Kia's dedication to safety and quality, reinforcing the K3's reliability for consumers.

Kia K3 Safety Features

The Kia K3 models sold in Latin America are equipped with a host of advanced safety features, many of which are available as standard across the range. These include:

  • Six airbags

  • Electronic stability control (ESC)

  • Hill start assist control

  • ABS (Anti-lock braking system)

  • ISOFIX child seat mounts

Higher trims of the K3 lineup also offer Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), further enhancing safety with features such as lane-keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, and emergency braking.

Kia K3 Engine Options

The Kia K3 sedan, which is manufactured in Mexico for the Latin American market, offers two engine choices. The standard engine across all trims is a 1.6-litre petrol engine that produces 121 hp. The more powerful GT Line variant features a 2.0-litre engine delivering 150 hp. These engine options provide a balance of performance and efficiency, catering to different driving needs.

Comparison with the Hyundai Verna

The Kia K3 shares its platform with the Hyundai Verna, a popular sedan in India, which also received a five-star rating in the 2023 Global NCAP crash test. Like the K3, the Verna scored high in adult and child occupant protection, solidifying the safety standards of both models. The Verna includes the following safety features as standard:

  • Six airbags

  • Electronic stability control

  • Traction control

  • ABS with EBD

  • ISOFIX child seat mounts

In terms of powertrains, the Hyundai Verna is available with two engine options: a 113 hp 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine and a 156 hp turbocharged 1.5-litre petrol engine. The Verna’s price range starts at Rs 11 lakh and goes up to Rs 17.41 lakh (ex-showroom).

The Kia K3's five-star rating in the Latin NCAP crash test emphasizes Kia’s commitment to delivering safe and reliable vehicles. With a shared platform with the Hyundai Verna, the K3 lineup boasts robust safety features, solidifying its position in the competitive market. Whether it's the sedan, hatchback, or crossover variant, the K3 offers consumers peace of mind through advanced safety technology and dependable performance.
