Breaks down the January 2026 sales performance of Hyundai India by model.
Focuses on models and growth leaders that fall short during the month and year.
Hyundai Motor India reported its highest-ever monthly domestic sales of 59,107 units in January, marking a remarkable milestone to start 2026.
Volumes were lower than December 2025, a seasonal trend as production begins following year-end shutdowns, but this was still a respectable 9% increase over January 2025. With a market share of roughly 13.1%, the company demonstrated its competitiveness in the Indian passenger car industry.
Creta Still Rules the Road
With 17,921 sales in January, the Hyundai Creta reclaimed its position as the brand's best-selling vehicle. It continues to dominate the mid-size SUV market, outselling several competitors, despite a slight year-over-year decline of roughly 3% when compared to January 2025.
Aura Gain Traction and the Venue
The Aura compact car sold about 8,000 units, a significant rise of almost 48% over January of last year, while the Venue compact SUV maintained its upward trajectory with 12,413 units, up around 12% year over year.
Hatchbacks Perform Remarkably
Additionally, smaller variants were popular. The premium i20 sold roughly 5,677 units, while the Grand i10 Nios sold nearly 7,710 units, indicating strong demand in the hatchback segment.
Models Experiencing Obstacles
In January, not every Hyundai product line performed well. With sales of about 5,621 units, the Exter micro-SUV reported moderate sales, a slight decrease from the previous year. The Verna sedan saw just 823 units, a significant decrease from the 962 units sold by the Alcazar seven-seater.
Only two Ioniq 5 electric SUVs were sold at the luxury end, indicating a low level of EV market acceptance.
