Honda 0 Alpha Electric SUV India Launch Confirmed

Honda Cars India has officially confirmed that its ground-up electric SUV, based on the Honda 0 Alpha concept, will make its commercial debut in the second half of 2026. The announcement was made at the launch event of the new ZR-V and City facelift. Built and designed for India, the SUV will also be exported to international markets, including Japan, marking a significant step in Honda's localised EV strategy.

  • The EV will be manufactured in India and exported to international markets, including Japan

Official Announcement Made at ZR-V and City Facelift Launch Event

Honda Cars India has made it official. At the launch event for the new ZR-V and City facelift, the company confirmed that its highly anticipated electric SUV, based on the Honda 0 Alpha concept, will go on sale in the second half of 2026.

While the company has not pinned down an exact date, there is reason to believe the commercial launch could fall between January and March 2027, putting it in the first quarter of the next financial year.

Made in India, Built for the World

What makes this announcement particularly significant is Honda's intent to manufacture the electric SUV locally.

Honda Cars India has confirmed that the vehicle will be produced at its Tapukara facility in Rajasthan, where public road testing has already commenced. The SUV will not only cater to the Indian market but will also be exported to international markets. It is a clear signal that Honda views India not just as a consumer market, but as a global production hub for its EV ambitions.

Design That Stays True to the Concept

Going by spy images captured during testing, the production version appears to remain faithful to the original 0 Alpha concept. The SUV sports a boxy, upright stance with a flat tailgate and an expansive glass area, giving it a distinctive presence on the road.

Honda Cars India has indicated that the focus will be on delivering a spacious, practical cabin, which should sit well with Indian families who have consistently valued roominess in their SUV purchases.

Technology and Features on Board

The new Honda electric SUV is expected to be the most feature-laden car from the brand in the Indian market. It will come equipped with a new infotainment system with smartphone connectivity, a digital driver's display, and connected car technology.

Honda is yet to disclose battery and motor specifications, but two battery pack options are anticipated, with higher-spec variants getting the larger of the two. A realistic driving range of around 450 km on a single charge is what the SUV is being engineered to deliver.

A Competitive Segment Awaits

The Honda 0 Alpha-based EV will enter a segment that is growing increasingly competitive. It will go up against established names such as the Hyundai Creta Electric, Mahindra BE 6, and the MG ZS EV, while also facing off against soon-to-arrive challengers like the Tata Sierra EV.

Honda will need to make a strong case on range, features, and value to carve out its share of this rapidly evolving market. Given the brand's reputation for reliability and the promise of a ground-up EV platform, the anticipation is well justified.
