Fuel Supply Crises In Tripura Government Approaches Center For Help

Fuel supply crises in Tripura; government approaches center for help

After a prolonged fuel supply crisis in Tripura, the State's government has reached out to the Union Railway Ministry for support in transporting fuel. Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha penned a letter to Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, urgently seeking assistance to address the critical shortage of petrol and diesel plaguing the region.

In response to the crisis, the Tripura government had implemented restrictions on fuel sales, causing widespread disruptions in private transportation. The fuel scarcity has triggered lengthy queues at gas stations serving a diverse range of vehicles, exacerbating the challenges faced by commuters in accessing essential fuel supplies.

Officials have attributed the fuel shortage to damages sustained by a railway route in a hilly area of Assam due to landslides. While repair work is underway, the complete restoration of train services remains pending, prolonging the strain on petrol and diesel distribution in Tripura. The State anticipates that it will take a few more days to normalize fuel supplies along the railway network.

As per an official statement issued recently, two-wheelers are currently restricted to purchasing a maximum of ₹200 worth of petrol daily, while four-wheelers are limited to ₹500 per day at fuel stations. The Chief Minister's office has assured that Dr. Saha is actively overseeing the situation and remains optimistic about a resolution to the crisis in the near future.

In a positive development, the distribution of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) has returned to regular levels following a brief shortage. Tripura officials have confirmed that filling stations operated by Tripura Natural Gas Company Limited now maintain adequate stock to meet consumer demand, providing some relief amidst the ongoing fuel crisis.
