It was anticipated that this would contribute to the development of an EV ecosystem in India but the reports stated that Musk posted on social media, saying, "Unfortunately, very heavy Tesla obligations require that the visit to India be delayed, but I do very much look forward to visiting later this year."
Musk prefers the Tesla Factory in Gujarat
Gujarat's Health Minister, Rushikesh Patel, expressed optimism about Tesla's entry into the state, saying that the government is in communication with the company and is hopeful that an official announcement will be made soon. Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla, is reportedly considering Gujarat as the first choice for setting up a manufacturing plant in India.

Tesla and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Meeting
In June 2023, Musk met with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to explore Tesla's possible investment in India. Musk announced his tentative plans to visit India in 2024 and indicated his optimism that Tesla will enter the country as soon as possible. The Tesla CEO had originally been expected to arrive in the nation on April 21 and meet with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on April 22.

Tesla's Negotiations and India's Import Duties
Tesla has been trying to work with the local authorities to negotiate lower import duties, which has caused the company's entry into India to be delayed.
Musk tweeted in 2021 that he wanted to bring Tesla into India but that the country had the highest import taxes in the world. Before contemplating any tax advantages, the Indian government, however, wants Tesla to manufacture cars domestically.
