Elon Musk May Not Be Driving But Teslas Arrival On Indian Roads Is Just Around The Corner

Elon Musk May Not Be Driving, But Tesla's Arrival on Indian Roads Is Just Around the Corner!

The Godfather of Electric Vehicles aka Our Elon Musk is always mercurial. Earlier this year, he planned a visit to India regarding Tesla’s arrival in India Unfortunately, he declared an unexpected schedule change Just one day before he was supposed to see Prime Minister Narendra Modi and speak with the founders of Indian space technology startups.

Reasons behind his postponement

Musk was scheduled to announce his investment plans in India one month after the Union Government unveiled its new policy on electric vehicles (EVs), which allowed the most valuable carmaker in the world to import vehicles into the nation at a reduced duty rate. It was anticipated that this would contribute to the development of an EV ecosystem in India but the reports stated that Musk posted on social media, saying, "Unfortunately, very heavy Tesla obligations require that the visit to India be delayed, but I do very much look forward to visiting later this year."

Musk prefers the Tesla Factory in Gujarat

Gujarat's Health Minister, Rushikesh Patel, expressed optimism about Tesla's entry into the state, saying that the government is in communication with the company and is hopeful that an official announcement will be made soon. Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla, is reportedly considering Gujarat as the first choice for setting up a manufacturing plant in India.

Tesla and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Meeting

In June 2023, Musk met with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to explore Tesla's possible investment in India. Musk announced his tentative plans to visit India in 2024 and indicated his optimism that Tesla will enter the country as soon as possible. The Tesla CEO had originally been expected to arrive in the nation on April 21 and meet with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on April 22.

Unfortunately, his India visit has been delayed due to 'very heavy' Tesla obligations.

Tesla's Negotiations and India's Import Duties

Tesla has been trying to work with the local authorities to negotiate lower import duties, which has caused the company's entry into India to be delayed.

Musk tweeted in 2021 that he wanted to bring Tesla into India but that the country had the highest import taxes in the world. Before contemplating any tax advantages, the Indian government, however, wants Tesla to manufacture cars domestically.

Plans for Investments and Site Visits by Tesla

According to reports, Tesla intends to invest up to $2 billion in India to establish an electric vehicle factory. Later this month, a team from the business is anticipated to travel there to explore possible locations for the production facility.

The company is thinking about putting its manufacturing in Gujarat, Maharashtra, and Tamil Nadu.

Manufacturing of Tesla in Germany for Export to India

Additionally, Right-hand drive vehicles are now being produced by Tesla at its German facility in preparation for delivery to India later this year. By year's end, the company hopes to export a few automobiles to India; as the country's demand for electric vehicles increases, more are anticipated.
